- You can buy lunch or breakfast from the cafeteria.
The price for teachers is different than for students. Ask for info
because you can a certain amount of items for the price (at least for
breakfast!) and if you get more than you have to pay extra. There is
coffee there in the morning and the oatmeal is good.
- They close the doors and start breaking down
breakfast about 7:55 and lunch after the last lunch period (lunch
periods = 3, 4, 5, 6).
- There are two Starbucks on Division and Clybourn.
One is at the entrance to the parking lot from Clybourn and the other
is inside Dominicks.
- Dunkin Donuts is at Division & Clark or
Division & Halsted with parking.
- The teacher lunchroom is at the northeast corner of
the school. There is a microwave, sink and refrigerator there. Try
getting a lunch group together. It is good to have a group to visit and
talk with and you can make friends from different departments.
Sometimes they will turn out to be some of your best friends!
- There are many places within walking distance to
get lunch. Ask the students for ideas. Seniors are allowed off campus
for lunch.

by accessing it from the Intranet web page. The link is at the bottom
of the page. Just follow the instructions.
- You also have a CPS email account. That account
can be accessed through the CPS web page. The
domain for teachers is "instr" which you will need to log on. This
account will be deactivated October 31, 2007. After that a new account
with FirstClass will be the only CPS account. The log on for that
is username@cps.edu You can access this account from the
FirstClass icon on your desktop at school or the web address http://mail.payton.cps.k12.il.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://fc.cps.edu/.

- Payton encourages special speakers for
your classes. You do have to fill out a form explaining who they are
and why they should come. Submit the form to Naomi Nakayama.
- Get permission for viewing films in class ...
- According to the law you can use commercial films
or clips in class. It cannot be for "entertainment" but you can use
them to teach or illustrate a concept. You have to have discussions
before, during and after about the point you are trying to make.
Controversial and R rated films have to be approved by Payton's Film
Advisory Board. You cannot show NC_17 rated films. Check the Intranet
page for the Policy, Submission form and parent permission slips.

office there is an additional code you must punch in to get an outside
line.
- Plan an absence
or have an unplanned absence ...
- If you know you will be absent ahead of time let Neida Reyes know.
There is an absence form you fill out and give to Neida. You can use a
sick day or personal day. You cannot use personal days around holidays
or the last week or two of the school year. Check with Neida. The form
can be found in the teacher's lunchroom.
- There is a different form for conferences or
workshops you attend. That form is also in the teacher's lunchroom.
- If you know you will be absent leave lesson plans
with Neida Reyes
in the office.
- If you have to be absence and you didn't plan for
it you have to call into school before 6:30 am. Leave a message on the
staff absence phone mailbox or talk to Neida directly. Your department
chair may want you to email lesson plans if they are not readily
available or there are always the substitute lesson plans that you have

- The fax machine is located in main office on the

nearby. Remember to dial 9, 1, area code, number. A confirmation will
print out.
- To receive a fax: There is a basket next to the fax
machine where received faxes are put. Go through them and look for
yours.

- Distance learning experiences are great. Luis Palacios
sends out information periodically about different opportunities.

- Set up a field trip
...
- To take your students on a field trip you have to
fill out forms at least two weeks ahead of time. The forms are on the Intranet
web page. Look at the "Field Trip Checklist" for a timeline to follow.
- You have to turn the following forms to Barbara Realmuto
at least two weeks ahead of time: Checklist with appropriate
signatures, Application for Student Travel (make sure everything is
filled out), Parent portion permission slip, Student portion permission
slip.
- If it is an in-house event (at Payton, special
speaker, dsl, etc) fill out the "In House Event Form" and turn into Erika Rivera in the
main office. Follow this procedure to schedule use of non-classroom
rooms such as the recital hall.

- Substitute lesson plans

- In the beginning of the year you have to submit
emergency substitute lesson plans to Ginger Lumpkin.
- You have to have a lesson plan for each class and
your seminars. It is helpful to include a roster and schedule. You can
print a roster with pictures from LSIMS. The plans should be generic
enough to be used at any time.
- If the lessons don't get used and you want to keep
them for the next school year ask for them back. They have been known
to disappear over the summer.

- GradeQuick is the computer grading program Payton
uses. It links to Edline so parents and students can have online
access.

- LSIMS is the computer program Payton uses for

student information & schedules, teacher schedules &
pictures.
- At grade input time you can get a report about your
student's attendance which you have to enter along with grades.

- Safari is a computer program you can use to control
the video or dvd you schedule with the dl lab and that is delivered
