Our Client and the Role:

Founded in 1957, our client has over 50 years of experience developing and operating customized supply chain and associated service solutions in demanding environments.

Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state - of - the - art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, aviation, transport and warehousing, camp services and fuel management.

Our client is the Support Services Division of this expanding international facilities Group which manages the design, construction and operation of sites for clients who need to operate in some of the world`s most challenging environments.

They are currently seeking a Millwright / General Engineering Tradesperson for their Technical Services Section based at Camp Bastion, Southern Afghanistan. This a permanent position on an open ended contract.

Reporting into the Site Services Supervisor, the successful candidate will carry out a wide range of engineering activities which will include using the following skills and techniques : Machinery installation, Machinery alignment, Bearings, Metal fabrication, Gaskets and seals, Oxygen-acetylene welding, Oxygen-acetylene cutting, Using various Hand tools, Hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Air compressors, Electric micrometer wire alignment, Power tools, Precision measuring tools, Gearboxes, Generators, Layout techniques*, Bolts and fasteners, Torquing, Lubrication, Fans, Pumps , Drive systems, Basic SMAW welding, Gear alignment, Plumbing and basic Electricals.

Knowledge and Skills:

You will be an accomplished Millwright / General Engineering Tradesperson with your practical experience ideally supported by Technical Trade Training from a recognized college etc.

You should have experience in most of the skills and techniques listed in the job description and the ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

You will have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

You will pay close attention to detail and be highly organized, installations, servicing including inspections, maintenance and testing.

You should have the ability to work under pressure and be able to work independently in all areas of our clients operation and experienced in trouble shooting and performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.

Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate with MS Office, e mail and the Internet.

This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Millwright / General Engineering Tradesperson looking for something different.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual bonus payable after 12 month`s service which is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. Accommodation, laundry, local transport, medical / health insurance, permanent disability and death benefit, bereavement leave and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc.

Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is approximately 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off.

In addition Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
