Expertise
I first help develop product requirements and write detailed hardware and firmware design specifications. From there I design electrical circuitry, act as a resource helping others with their designs, design and develop firmware, and perform worst-case hardware power, loading, and timing analyses. Hardware and software integration, testing, and verification. Working with multiple disciplines to help each Team successfully accomplish our projects quickly and cost effectively.

My own personal electrical designs incorporate FPGAs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers including ARM. I designed with radiation hardened FPGAs, plus discrete digital and analog circuitry to monitor and control power and thrusters on a number of flying satellites. I integrate wireless and hardwired communications, laser drivers, fiber optics, and infrared communications. Also Medical, Military, Industrial, Commercial and Research design experience. Designing with MEMS sensors. Substantial experience designing and testing VHDL firmware for my FPGA hardware designs. Embedded C software designs. All with simulation, emulation, hands-on debugging and detailed documentation.

Self-employed as a hardware and embedded firmware Design Consulting Engineer. Also acted as a Project Manager and General Contractor coordinating the efforts of other professionals in the Mechanical Design, Components, Board Layout, Fabrication, Assembly, EMI/RFI, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering fields. Designed and developed new products from concept to finished, tested and certified items, ready to ship. Value engineered existing products. Performed worst-case AC and DC power, loading and timing analyses. Designed radiation hardened Space, Military, Medical, Research, and Commercial products.

9/88 – 6/89   Tone Commander Systems, Inc., Redmond, Washington
Senior Design Engineer incorporating present technologies into the company's telecommunications products. Included designs with programmable logic and several microprocessors. Performed worst-case power, loading, and timing analyses.

10/84 – 9/88   John Fluke Manufacturing Company, Everett, Washington
Project Manager and Senior Design Engineer for a support product. Coordinated the efforts of other disciplines and performed the entire digital design and its testing. Test Software Engineer on another product, writing test software and test cases. Also, Software Engineer writing some of that product's commercial code. Later assigned as the product's Lead Digital Designer through to its release. Assisted Manufacturing in establishing analog and digital test methods. Experienced with fiber optics.
