Pharmaceutics projects: Spray dryers Performed computational fluid dynamics analyses of spray dryers, used to produce amorphous pharmaceutical solid solutions, in order to optimize performance and predict scale-up behavior. Medical device projects: Surgical sterilizers Performed thermal and computational fluid dynamics analysis on surgical instrument sterilizing devices to predict sterilizing agent concentration and optimize performance. Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) implants Performed large-strain, non-linear stress analysis on TMJ implant in order to predict implant deflection at yield. CAT-scan power supplies Performed thermal and computational fluid dynamics analysis of under-performing CAT-scan power supply heat sink and heat exchanger. Optimized design for size, weight, and material cost. Electro-surgical scalpels Designed and optimized smoke removal undercarriage for electro-surgical scalpel to avoid infringing on an existing patent. Improved vacuum performance by over 50%, verified by laboratory testing. Cardiovascular stents Performed large-strain, non-linear stress analysis on two separate stent designs. Modeled life-like loads, including crimping over angioplasty balloon, balloon expansion in the artery, and cyclic loading from arterial blood flow. Wrote and submitted FDA testing protocols.
