I have previously featured some directories from Ireland and Philadelphia on this blog. Continuing in this vein, this listing of Buggy names comes from Trow’s 1856 New York City Directory. It was compiled by H. Wilson and published by John Trow of 377 and 379 Broadway, New York. The exact date of coverage is “for the year ending 1 May 1857”.

In all, five Buggy names are listed along with other similar sounding names. The listing of a widow (Buggy, Catherine wid.) usually indicates that her husband died in the preceding year. This can obviously be very helping in pinpointing a year of death when searching in vital records. All the Buggy names are on page 116 of the publication.
