Coal, once the life blood of both rural and urban communities, was delivered to local by rail to local merchants, where it was bagged for local delivery. To accomplish this, coal dealers constructed short trestles that could accommodate one or two hopper cars. The contents of the hopper cars would be emptied through the deck of the trestle onto the ground below.
From there the coal could be loaded by conveyer either into waiting trucks for delivery or packaged in bags.

Our coal trestle features all of the fidelity to scale that our bridges do, but is smaller and geared more towards the modeler who has not constructed a craftsman's kit before.
