The following exciting information is very relevant to our two premium varieties, Rubel and Rancocas:

"... Studies have shown that blueberries... are FIRST in actual chemical effectiveness in preventing oxidation in cells... The ORAC (Oxygen radical absorbance capacity) for blueberries is not just high, it is astoundingly high, with a quarter of a cup having 800 ORAC units.  (To put it in context, 'about' five servings of fruit and vegetables a day yield a total of 1,600 units)  Blueberries have, on average, 20 'ORAC' units per gram.  The average size individual blueberry fruit has 30 ORACs and large fruited varieties have 40 ORACs per fruit... But in fact, there are differences between varieties - with... the best (measuring) a whopping 40 ORAC units per gram...  'Bladen' (42 ORACs/gram), 'Rubel' (37 ORACS/gram), and Rancocas (32 ORACS/gram)... have the hightest ORAC scores... Overall, the highest ORAC score comes with the highest anthocyanin content.  Blueberries have from 135 mg to 280 mg per 100 grams fresh weight of 'polyphenols' - flavenoid substances in plants hypothesized to confer reduced cancer risk benefits... This makes them the (commonly available) fresh fruit with the highest polyphenol content."

Please note:  The Bladen variety mentioned above can only be grown in southern climates.  Thus, our Rubel and Rancocas are *the* most nutritious varieties of blueberry grown in British Columbia!
