Carole Demas and Paula Janis
The Magic Garden RETROSPECTIVE
From The Magic Garden to The Winery
RETURN ENGAGEMENT!

Come and Celebrate Carole and Paula's 65 Years of Friendship!
In a very special and intimate setting - discover the history and legacy of The Magic Garden
Come to see the two and only Carole and Paula, as they regale you with their combined history,
hear how it all began, thru music and stories and video of their celebrated journey.
Carole Demas and Paula Janis have been pals since they met at the age of 14 in 1954,
so they’re celebrating the 65
th anniversary of their friendship and the creation and continuation of The Magic Garden.

The highly-acclaimed show won accolades and tons of fans during its 12 years on the air
as the two combined their talents for performing and educating.
They brought stories, songs, games, valuable lessons and even more valuable laughter to a wide audience
and achieved ratings that equaled or surpassed those of Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
Like those shows, the program’s quirky style made it entertaining for adults as well as children.

Since they started back up performing live shows, one of the most astonishing things about Carole and Paula’s live shows
has been the number of adults who show up to reconnect with their memories
of the psychedelic, off-beat rhythm of life lived in the garden, amidst the toadstools, the Magic Tree, and the immortal Chuckle Patch.
With three fabulous albums, a popular DVD, a Grammy nomination, and citations from Actions for Children’s Television and the Children’s Television Workshop,
the legacy of The Magic Garden as one of the most valuable and endearing achievements in all of children’s entertainment is secure.
“A timeless cultural institution. …We hold onto The Magic Garden so ferociously not to wax nostalgic about the magic of childhood, but to keep the magic of childhood with us through adulthood.” Joanna Colangelo, The Huffington Post
“Emblematic of a seemingly simpler era.” Dave Itzkoff, The New York Times

HERE’S LOVE
TO THE MUSIC MAN

A Celebration of Songwriter Meredith Willson.
Starring Jim Dale, Bob Cuccioli and many others
with a special appearance by Carole and Paula
with Mark York at the Piano

Tony Award winner Jim Dale and Tony nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Robert Cuccioli headline in HERE'S LOVE TO THE MUSIC MAN: A Celebration of Songwriter Meredith Willson, the opening event of The Ziegfeld Society's ninth Season, honoring the 60th Anniversary of THE MUSIC MAN which received the 1958 Tony Award for Best Musical, and its legendary creator, Meredith Willson.

Hosted, written and directed by Tony nominee and Theatre World Award winner Walter Willison, Artistic Director of The Ziegfeld Society. The holiday musical tribute will be presented for one performance only, on Saturday, December 9th at 3:00pm at The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Theater, 120 West 46th Street, New York City.

HERE'S LOVE TO THE MUSIC MAN will include songs from Meredith Willson's Broadway musicals HERE'S LOVE (the musical version of the film Miracle on 34th Street), THE UNSINKABLE Molly Brown, and Willson's popular songs including "May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You", "You and I", "I See the Moon", and "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas", as well as songs from THE MUSIC MAN "Till There Was You" and "Seventy-Six Trombones", honoring the 60th Anniversary of that landmark Broadway musical. One of the highlights will be "Ask Not", the rarely heard tribute composed by Willson in memory of his friend, President John F. Kennedy.

Tony Award and Drama Desk Award winner Jim Dale (JUST Jim Dale, THE THREEPENNY OPERA, SCAPINO) and Tony nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Robert Cuccioli (JEKYLL AND HYDE, SPIDERMAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, LES MISERABLES) star alongside Cheryl Ann Allen, Aaron Lee Battle, Katie Dixon (CATS), John Drinkwater, Matthew Drinkwater, Shana Farr, Elise Godfrey, Melinda Hopkins, Joanna Rush (KICK), Cynthia Thomas (AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' starring The Pointer Sisters, MEMPHIS), Sheila Wormer, Carole & Paula (Carole Demas and Paula Janis, the stars of the popular long running WPIX-TV show "The Magic Garden"), "The City Sliders": Alex Jeun, Nate Sutton, Gina Trombetta, and The Gotham Four: Anderson Daniel, Rafi Hasib, BJ Hillnick and Richard Townsend, from Voices of Gotham, the 10th highest rated barbershop quartet organization in the world.

The Meredith Willson tribute is hosted, written and directed by Tony Award nominee and Theatre World Award winner Walter Willison (GRAND HOTEL, TWO BY TWO, PIPPIN), with musical direction and special arrangements by Executive Producer and TZS co-founder Mark York (Jim Dales' on stage sidekick and accompanist in JUST Jim Dale).

Broadway legend Jim Dale received a Tony Award for BARNUM as well as Tony Award nominations for THE THREEPENNY OPERA (2006), CANDIDE (1997), JOE EGG (1985) and SCAPINO (1975). He is a two-time Grammy winner and six-time Grammy nominee for his narration of all seven Harry Potter audiobooks. His numerous other honors include a Drama Desk Award, four more Drama Desk nominations, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for his song "Georgy Girl", and a 1973 BAFTA nomination. His most recent New York appearance was as the star of The Roundabout's acclaimed production of JUST Jim Dale, which went on to achieve further success at The Vaudeville Theater in London's The West End.

Meredith Willson was one of the most popular and acclaimed songwriters, conductors, arrangers and radio and TV personalities of the 20th Century. Born in Mason City, Iowa (immortalized in THE MUSIC MAN as River City), he traveled the United States three times with John Phillip Sousa, played flute and piccolo for the New York Philharmonic under Toscanini, conducted symphony orchestras, wrote best-selling books, composed symphonies and wrote pop tunes that rose to number one on the Hit Parade. He gained a wide reputation as a musical director in radio and eventually hosted his own shows: "Meredith Willson's Sparkle Time", "Meredith Willson's Show Room", "The Meredith Willson Show", "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show", and "The Big Show" starring Tallulah Bankhead, arranging, conduction and writing for a who's who of the world's most beloved stage and film stars of the 20th Century. His six published books, three of the autobiographies, include "But He Doesn't Know the Territory", an odyssey of THE MUSIC MAN's trek to Broadway.

Meredith Willson's many honors include The Tony Award, Drama Critics Circle Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Big Brother Award, presented to him by President John F. Kenney in 1962. He received two Academy Award nominations, for his scores for Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator (1940) and William Wyler's The Little Foxes (1941). And he received the first Grammy Award ever presented for Best Original Cast Album. Willson was also a familiar face to TV audiences in the 50s and 60s.

The Ziegfeld Society's raison d'être could be described as special, unique, fantastical, show-stopping,
and extraordinary; AND on top of all that, it is centered on honoring the “Golden Age of Broadway,” a
time when Florenz Ziegfeld was at the height of his career as a show business impresario. The Society
also includes other musical revues of the era set in motion by Ziegfeld's large-scale spectacles that took place from 1907 through roughly 1960, such as the George White Scandals, the Earl Carroll Vanities, the Music Box Revues, the Shuberts’ The Passing Show, and others.
Since The Ziegfeld Society's first Charter Meeting on March 1, 2009, our mission to preserve Musical Theatre History though Education and Performance has been achieved by way of meetings held the last Saturday of each month from September through June and outreach performances throughout New York City.
Each monthly meeting includes live performances on a variety of topics including Stars of the Broadway stage, material from stage productions, movies, and special presentations of the early part of the 20th century drawn from The World of Florenz Ziegfeld and featuring a variety of performers of all ages from the Broadway stage, the cabaret world, TV, and film.
In true Ziegfeldian style, performances are accompanied by no shortage of feathers, glitz, sparkles, classic show business ambiance, and true Broadway-style entertainment.

The highly-acclaimed show won accolades and tons of fans during its 12 years on the air as the two combined their talents for performing and educating. They brought stories, songs, games, valuable lessons and even more valuable laughter to a wide audience and achieved ratings that equaled or surpassed those of Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Like those shows, the program’s quirky style made it entertaining for adults as well as children.
Since they started back up performing live shows, one of the most astonishing things about Carole and Paula’s live shows has been the number of adults who show up to reconnect with their memories of the psychedelic, off-beat rhythm of life lived in the garden, amidst the toadstools, the Magic Tree, and the immortal Chuckle Patch.
With three fabulous albums, a popular DVD, a Grammy nomination, and citations from Actions for Children’s Television and the Children’s Television Workshop, the legacy of The Magic Garden as one of the most valuable and endearing achievements in all of children’s entertainment is secure. Kids and adults alike will thrill to see the two and only Carole and Paula, along with special guest The Original Sherlock and musical director Ian Herman. Ages 2+

Carole Demas - Guest Star
VOICES FOR THE VOICELESS
Fundraiser - Benefit performance
with Broadway For Orlando
On September 12, 2016, stars from both Broadway and Hollywood will join hands at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in the name of adoption at the 2nd annual Voices for the Voiceless: Stars for Foster Kids concert. Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley present, highlighting the deep struggle of older children in foster care to find adoptive families. In the United States, most children between the ages of 13 and 21 remain “unadoptable” by most potential parents due to their age.

Voices for the Voiceless aims to amend this plight.
Rudetsky and Wesley, the husband team behind this philanthropic event, are no strangers to adoption; they are raising their beloved daughter, Juli, a child of adoption.
In Wesley’s words, “Our inaugural event last year was welcomed with such excitement and support that we couldn’t wait to partner with You Gotta Believe again this year. All of these amazing stars are completely donating their time and talents to support these kids. It’s going to be an inspiring night full of love and hope!” Adds Rudetsky, “This is my favorite combination: Broadway, amazing stars and helping the world!
The star-studded benefit includes the following Broadway and Hollywood names: Rosie Perez, Gloria Gaynor, Megan Hilty, Chita Rivera, Sherri Saum, Rachel Crow, Marc Shaiman, Janice Huff, Caroline Rhea, Alec Mapa, Alice Ripley, BD Wong, Charles Busch, Liz Callaway, Ann Hampton Callaway, Orfeh, Adrienne Warren, Anika Larsen, Keala Settle, Richard Kind, Tony Yazbeck, Roz Ryan, Michelle Collins, Lisa Mordente, Liz Larsen, Josh Colley, Lilla Crawford, Christine Pedi, Janet Metz, Olga Merediz and Carole Demas.
Tickets are now on sale, ranging from $47 to $199. All proceeds go to You Gotta Believe, the only New York-based adoption nonprofit agency focused on matching kids over the age of 13 in foster care with a forever family. For more information about the event’s mission,

This year we will be raising money for two amazing families.

The first is for the family of Lisa Connors. Lisa passed away on October 8, 2014 of MDS, a disease that affect the bone marrow and blood. About 19,000 people are diagnosed with MDS in the United States each year. Although MDS can affect people of any age, the majority are older than 60 years. The money raised at our benefit will help Lisa’s family get through this rough time.

The second family we are raising money for is for the Fleming family. Kara Jean Fleming is currently suffering from Huntington's Disease, a hereditary degenerative brain disorder that slowly is robbing Kara of the ability to walk, talk, think and reason. Once thought of as a rare disorder, Huntington's Disease is now recognized as one of the more common hereditary diseases.

The money raised at our benefit will help Kara with medical bills and will help to support her family through this difficult time.

Ages 2+

Carole Demas and Paula Janis have been pals since they met at the age of 14 in 1954, so they’re celebrating the 60th anniversary of their real-life friendship. In 1972, 18 years after their first meeting, The Magic Garden was born.
