Proms 2011

Sort of continuing from my previous post I looked into tickets for the Last Night of the Proms. I had been to Proms in the Park once before in 2004 [I think!] and always wanted to go back. Additionally, I had tickets for 2008, but couldn’t make it.

As I was browsing the Proms website I decided to also take a look at other Proms to see if any interested me enough to actually attend a proper Prom. There are a few things I’ve always wanted to see played live, among them Elgar’s Cello Concerto [Spotify link]. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find that, but I did find the following which seemed interesting:

  • Prom 37: Bridge, Brahms, Holst & Elgar [Thursday 11th August – Seats £7.50-£36 – Link]
  • Prom 39: Spaghetti Western Orchestra [Friday, 12th August – Seats £12-£16 – Link]
  • Prom 65: Elgar, Berkeley, Rachmaninov & Kodály [Saturday 3rd September – Seats £7.50-£36 – Link]
  • Proms in the Park – Hyde Park [Saturday, 10th September – Tickets £32.50 – Link]

I am very surprised by the price for Proms in the Park. I remembered the price to be around the £13 mark before and £32.50 seems a lot of money for what essentially comes down to just Hyde Park. That being said I’m equally surprised how cheap the other Proms are. Essentially I could see all of the above concerts for just under £60 entry, obviously excluding the extortionate travelling costs.

Obviously then there’s always the question whether I would actually want to go to London four times in such a short timespan..

I wanted to send you a little remark to say thank you the moment again for
your personal pretty suggestions you’ve featured here. It’s seriously open-handed of people like you to make freely all that some
people could possibly have offered as an electronic book
in order to make some profit for their own end, notably
considering that you could possibly have done it in case
you desired. Those points as well worked like the easy way to know that other people
have similar keenness similar to my own to see much more
pertaining to this problem. I’m certain there are thousands of more pleasurable opportunities ahead for folks who read carefully your site.
