2011 Smith College Spring Bulb Show (Part 1)
What has now become an annual trek, I visited the Smith College Spring Bulb Show along with my friend, Karen. We waited for a nice, spring-like day to fulfill the spring-like experience. With the prompt for my Picture Inspiration class in mind I set about to capture “How things stack up”.
I thought that these grape hyacinths (muscari) stacked up nicely.
Not sure what kind of bulb this is but it is similar in shape to the grape hyacinth only it’s yellow and the bells are thinner and longer.
I only wish I could attach the scent that hung in the air throughout the greenhouses. It was truly amazing.
I just love this bulb show. Can you imagine being able to go there without a crowd of other people and being able to shoot to your heart’s content?
Great idea for the “stacking” theme!
I bet that if you are a member there are special visiting hours. It was crowded on Friday as well.
Wow! These are soooo beautiful! I wish we had something like that around here, I would be in heaven! But, as far as I know, the Arboretum is IT. I’m actually thinking of getting a membership there again, even if it’s just for myself. We used to have a family membership when we lived closer.
I wish there was a botanical garden around here. When we lived in Virginia Beach the Norfolk Botanical Gardens was one of my very favorite places to visit.
beatiful pictures!! enjoy spring!
Beautiful photos. Thanks for showing me a side of Smith College I wouldn’t have seen.
Sooo pretty. I’m itching to plant some flowers!

Love the smell of hyacinth! Planted some last fall and can’t wait until they come up!
Sooooo pretty! Sigh…better than the snow I see falling today…
