We made it! Sorry it has been so long to post. We arrived in Nairobi last night (Saturday) late with a trip to the Mennonite Guesthouse, where we would stay overnight. We met up with the remainder of the team this morning and headed on to Kijabe. There was a little bit of weather that caused some travel interruptions for a few on the team, and they will join us later today.

On the ride to Kijabe, we stopped at a beautiful overlook to take in the Great Rift Valley, and took a group picture. Charlie isn’t missing, he is just behind the camera. 🙂

Once we arrived at the AIC CURE Hospital, we unloaded all the packers and suitcases that had medical supplies and started organizing.  We have just about everything set up for in the morning.  Lunch started at 1, so we took a break until 3.  At 3 we head back to the hospital to start seeing babies and organizing the surgery schedule!  Exciting!!  🙂  This next picture is a little crazy, at least I thought so!  I never expected to see animals (quite like this) until our safari break at the end of this week.  But, there was a troop (yes, I looked this up before I posted) of baboons in front of the ENT house!  In fact, one of the ladies that cooks for us had said they had been there all day, and this morning, one of them had tried to open the back door!  Holy cow!  🙂  So, of course, we took pictures….

It is almost time to head back up to the hospital, so it is goodbye for now.  Please keep our team in your prayers.  Check back tomorrow for some awesome baby picutres and stories!  🙂

This is a note from Robert, one of the local CRNA’s to Patti, one of our Anesthesiologists from Arkansas Children’s Hospital, at the end of the trip say THANKS PATTI for all you do and we are so happy to get to share you with others!!!  Patti supervised CRNA’s in three operating rooms as well as assisted in recovery.  We kept her on her toes.  As always, she never missed a beat and never stopped smiling.  Robert said it just perfectly:

Hi Dr. Patty,

I trust you’re doing okay and hope you liked it while here with us. Just to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for being nice during the time we’ve worked together. You played a great team leader/ supervisor. On behalf of my department i say Bravo. We enjoyed working with all of your team members. In case of any short comings that might have upset you while working with, i say sorry and hope you let go. You’re a blessing to the anesthesia departtment and especially to the small children. May almighty continue to bless you in the work you render to those who require such service. Godwilling, i hope to see and work with you again next time. Thanks once again.

Till we meet. Keep in touch.

Blessing!

 Robert.

Well, the time has arrived….just one day before the team is set to depart.  Today has already been filled with buzzing around trying to tie up ends here at the hospital, ensuring that all the documents that they need are in order, get this and get that!

Please check back tomorrow for updates on the team getting off the ground and headed to Kenya, changing one face, one life at a time!
