Who We Are : Our Story

Our Beginnings

In the late 1930's. a group of young entrepreneurs saw a need for an Afro-American funeral home in Concordia Parish, Louisiana. The original Concordia Funeral Home was then established and began doing business in a two-story frame building at 606 South Fourth Street on the south end of Ferriday, LA. In August of 1976 when most of the original owners had passed away, Gene T. Allen, grandson of one of the founders, the late Joe Hagan, Sr., bought and incorporated the business. In less than two years, Mr. Allen, a 1968 graduate of Texas College of Mortuary Science (Dallas Institute of Funeral Services) saw a great need for a modern facility to continue serving families in their time of need. In the fall of 1978, construction began at the present location, 609 Alabama Avenue in Ferriday. In the spring of ‘79, the new building was completed and dedicatory services were held July 1, 1979. Together with his wife, Bonnie Andrews Allen, and son, Robert A. Allen, both licensed funeral directors, Concordia Funeral Home remains independently and Family owned, giving personal and professional services to Families in the Miss-Lou and surrounding area in their time of need.
