Shooting on Quebec Near Park Place

smoking_gunAt about 10:15 pm this evening a barrage of gunfire erupted on Quebec Place. From the gunfire I heard, there were easily 15-20 shots fired. Police responded relatively quickly, and at least two victims is are known to have been shot. One is a woman that was on Quebec, the other a driver that may or may not have been a bystander heading south on Park Place. The driver crashed his car in addition to the gunshot wounds. The extent of their injuries are not known at this time, but they do not appear to be life threatening. I’ll report more as details come my way.

Update: As of 11:19 pm, helicopters were added to the scene.

Update from Commander Kishter: A shooting occurred at Park Place and Quebec. One adult female was struck in the leg and was transported to an area hospital.  A second adult male was also struck in the upper torso and attempted to drive away in his vehicle causing him to crash near Quebec and Warder Streets.  He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.  The matter is currently being investigated by the Third District Detectives.

I’ve also heard, but have not confirmed, that the driver in serious condition died. Does anyone know if this is in fact the case?

Update: As of this morning, Quebec is still taped off. In speaking with one of the officers, there are no new details and the investigation is ongoing.

  1. RCCHRD Resident Says:

I thought it the noise was from firecrackers, not gunshots. Then I saw the police cars. Tough I am relieved to learn that there were no fatalities, I am saddened that this continues to be the norm in our neighborhood.

On a serperate note, I think that the helicopter is just plain absurd. It is over an hour after the shooting. What are the odds of the perpetrators remaining on location? Seriously! Who can sleep with a circling chopper overhead?

  2. Agree on the helicopter if anything that rises the anxiety level of us neighbors to have that sort of noise over our heads for such a long time.

I went to sleep finally after the helicopter left to be awoken at 2:35am again by a second round of gun shots (about 7 or 8). This time in my corner (7th and Shepherd). Police also arrived at the scene relatively quick–about 4 minutes. does anybody have info on this second shooting?

  3. Just got this email from my council memeber:

See report from MPD’s Third District:

In the Third District PSA 302

On Monday, June 22, 2009, at 2156 hours units from the Third District were dispatched to the 600 block of Quebec Pl., NW, for the report of a shooting. Moments later they received a second run for a traffic accident involving an overturned vehicle two blocks away at the intersection of Park Pl & Otis Pl NW. Upon the arrival of the officers they located an adult female in the 600 block of Quebec Pl NW, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. They located a male victim at the scene of the traffic accident in the 3600 block of Park Pl., NW. The male was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds which, it was learned, he received while he was in the 600 block of Quebec Pl., NW. The DCFD responded to the scene and transported the victims to area hospitals. The male was transported to MedSTAR, where he was pronounced dead at 2350 hours.

  4. WOW. Thanks D.A. I don’t quite live a block away from this, and except for the sound, it was like a brick of firecrackers had been set off.

  5. We also thought it was firecrackers, until we heard the car crash at the end of the block (we live on Otis). Ubelievable.

  6. Michael Says:

Saddened there were no fatalities? Hell shoot each other to death and maybe then things will calm down. I love to hear when gangbangers get shot, they’ve already turned in their Right to Live in Society card. Good riddance.

Glad no one innocent seems to have been injured.

Also some of you chill out, or maybe you just like to overrreact in your language; c.f., “anxiety” because of a helicopter? Come on.

  7. Michael if anxiety is what i feel i cannot do anything about it. telling me to chill out does not change my feeling. I do not think that my feelings and how i express them really affects or offends anybody. “quotation marks” on my feelings are a bit unnecessary.
    Respectfully, D.A.

  9. To michael How do you know if they were gang bangers? How do you know if they weren’t innocent bystanders? You need to get your facts straight before you start writing bull shit. To set you straight they were innocent by standers, and one of them did die. That could have been you or someone close to you. GOD Bless your rotten soul and the families involved in this tragedy.

  10. Michael Says:

If they were absolutely innocent bystanders – meaning they had nothing whatsoever to do with any illicit activity, weren’t congregating with crimminals and were absolutely without a doubt random innocents, then I was wrong and apologize.

Do you have your facts straight? Are you absolutely certain they were completely innocent – meaning not friends with gangbangers, not inviting them into the neighborhood, nothing of the like? Because if you aren’t 100% certain then your admonition that I need to get my facts right before writing bullshit also goes for you.

But as I said, if they were completely innocent then I was incorrect. I can admit that.

But still – keep on shooting each other gangbangers (just aim better so you don’t hit innocent people). Kill yourselves off so the rest of us can enjoy our lives.

And for anyone reading this who does associate with criminals and members of gangs – you’re responsible for every innocent life they take. Shun them, close them out, don’t speak with them, don’t befriend them, don’t look the other way. They are thugs and need to be ostracized from society.

  11. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

  12. The following just came across the 3DSubstation listserve from Inspector Jacob Kishter:

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the closure of the homicide that occurred in the Third Police District in the 600 block of Quebec Street, Northwest, of Ryan Randy Trotman.

On Monday, June 22, 2009, at 2156 hours units from the Third District

Moments later, they received a second run for a traffic accident involving an overturned vehicle (two blocks away at the intersection of Park Pl & Otis Pl NW). CASE CLOSED with an ARREST

  13. Curlymob Says:

Michael…ur an asshole. First off even if they did something illicit in their life doesnt mean the deserve to die…I’m quite sure ur stupid ass isnt an angel. The person was an innocent bystander…I know him personally. And the girl who got shot in the leg was also innocent. Its people with ur attitude towrds things that lead to incidents like the tragedy at the Holocost Museum. Consider other peoples feelings before u make blanket statements like that…Asshole.

  14. For those who are wondering who was the person that got shut and killed, her sister posted this on another blog:

    Tiffany Says:

    June 24th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Yes the victim was Ryan Randy Trotman he is my brother. And to address the person who “heard” that he was being chased lets verify that statement okay. He was merely standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. He died due to senseless violence. Violence in which we will see justice thank god they found that bastard who killed my brother. R.I.P ry ry.

  15. l-Boogie Says:

Michael, I can only pray that one day you and your family do not have to endure a tragic, senseless loss such as this. Your snap judgment to assume that those injured were gang-bangers (and therefore somehow are deserving?) is so very short sighted, and in all honesty, quite disgusting.

You should really be ashamed of yourself. I mean, talk about having a lack of respect for human life?!?! Shiiiiiiit – I think you better take a look at yourself there buddy!

I guess that one day, if tragedy were to strike you, it may just be karma then?

    ASSHOLE.

  16. This message was sent by someone who knew the victim in one of the yahoo groups (petworth)

“Just wanted to say that Ryan Trotman was a classmate of mine at Paul Jr. High school years ago. He did not fit the profile of a ‘misguided youth.’ Very intelligent, and definitely at the wrong place at the wrong time. My heart goes out to him and his family. “

  17. PoP posted a memorial of Ryan Trotman that includes statements from the victim’s mother and sisters. Its worth a read, and helps put this tragedy in perspective. You can read it at http://www.princeofpetworth.com/2009/06/rest-in-peace-ryan-randy-trotman-november-6-1980-june-22-2009/
