If you love food, this is the place to be!

Boiling Crab To-Go….Yes Thats Right……

So another review for all you food lovers… Originally I set myself up to check out the Boiling Crab in Garden Grove off of Brookhurst, mind you, there are actually 2 restaurant locations within miles from each and both extremely busy. Unfortunately, Boiling Crab does not take reservations. Just to give you an idea of how good the food is here, the line stretches outside the store and that’s just to get a number. Boiling Crab offers seafood done in a very traditional southern Cajun style of cooking. If you can handle the spice, you’ll definitely love this place.

Since the wait was going to be over 2 hours long, we decided to just check out Boiling Crab to-go. So yes this review is on their to-go store which is in the same plaza. They offer the same exact menu as their normal restaurant, just without the long wait. I promise you guys a review of the restaurant next time. Anyways, so checking out their menu, they offer a variety of shellfish. You get to choose from Blue Crab, Dungeoness Crab, King Crab Legs, Fresh Oysters(raw), Craw-fish, Shrimp, Catfish, Gumbo, and Cajun Wings. Also offered on the menu are the delicious Sausages, Corn on the Cob, Cajun Fries, and Potatoes. We ordered a whole lot of food, since most of the menu is ordered by weight. There was 8 of us that night, so we ordered 8 lbs of shrimp, 3 lbs of craw-fish, 1 dungeoness crab, 2 dozen oysters, an order of Cajun wings, 4 orders of Cajun fries, an order of potatoes, 3 orders of sausages and corn on the cob. Sounds like a lot of food right? Well it was! The seafood is cooked in a variety of seasoning, you have a choice of Rajun Cajun, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Butter or The Whole Sha-bang which is a combination of all 3 seasonings. You then still have a choice of how spicy you want it. The level starts at mild, medium, spicy, extra spicy and extra extra spicy. Even the mild, there’s a kick to the flavor already, we ended up choosing ours in the whole sha-bang cooked spicy. Usually when ordered, they throw everything together in the bag to absorb all the flavors.

The shrimp is in one bag, the crawfish in another, the corn and sausage in one bag and then when all said and done, you combine all the bags together on a plate.

The oysters we ordered were delicious and that’s assuming you love oysters like I do. They tasted extremely fresh as if we just got them at the pier. With a little bit of lime, a hint of Tabasco, the oysters have such a unique flavor that sets it off just right.

I’m not much of a craw-fish person because of all the work needed, but once you get to the meat inside, its delectably surprising. Its full of flavor and the shrimp also shares the same juicy tender flavor in every bite. There’s no other word to describe the sausages and corn on the cob but AWESOME. It is that good. We also picked up some Baguettes to eat with the seafood, which helped once your mouth is on fire from the great food. The Cajun fries were phenomenal. Extra crispy with a mouth watering kick to it. This is a must order for anyone going to Boiling Crab.

In the end, well actually not the end in the picture you see below, we were about 60 percent done with the food and already getting full. But what better than to enjoy good food with good company?

The Boiling Crab is a must try for all seafood lovers. Remember, I’m still only talking about their to-go store, wait till I check out their restaurant. For now, I’ll leave you with the usual, “Bon Appetit” or as the Boiling Crab family likes to say “Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez” – Let The Good Times Roll……
