You are invited to the next WORSA meeting on Wednesday, March 15, 7 p.m. at Aventura in Dana Point.

Captain Barbara Merriman will demonstrate how to make decorative rope mats at the meeting. Dress comfortably because we’ll get down on the floor to make an oval mat (Ladder or Boarding Mat) for your home, dock or boat. Or, make a smaller round one (Block Mat) as a trivet or coaster.

If you want to participate, bring some line to the meeting, or you can just observe.

For the boarding mat, you’ll need 100' of 3/8 inch line.

A trivet will take 50' of ¼ inch line.

A coaster works best with small flat line - some of the fishing tackle stores stock that.

Recycle old line or Minney’s in Costa Mesa is a good place to buy inexpensive line. Also look at the remnant sections in the various West Marines or Boats US - lots of bargains can be scouted out if you look. Home Depot sells 100 ft. of double braid 3/8 inch line for about $13 and they come in bright colors: purple, green, yellow, blue. If you purchase the Home Depot line, uncoil it a few days ahead so it’s easier to work with.

We will also have a short presentation on the Rules of the Road, and we’ll learn the tautline hitch. Everyone is welcome to this free event! Bring a friend.
