EXCLUSIVE: JOHN LYALL TALKS TO EX!
Wednesday 21 July, 2004
John Lyall has ended his 15-year silence by talking exclusively, and at great length, to EX Magazine. The former manager's amazing story, spanning 34 turbulent years at the club, will appear in issues 16 & 17, so make sure you get your copy, or renew your subscription now!
John recently invited EX Magazine's Tony McDonald and Terry Connelly to his beautiful Suffolk farmhouse retreat, where he lives in happy and healthy retirement with his wife, Yvonne, son Murray and his three grandchildren.
"Who needs management when I've got all this!" smiles John, now 64, who succeeded Ron Greenwood in 1974 and led the Hammers to four major cup finals before being sacked in 1989.
We've got exclusive, new pics of John at home, where he goes into great detail about his eventful career with the club he joined as a boy. He recalls hos his own playing career was ended by a serious knee injury, how he learned from his idol and mentor, Ron Greenwood, on how to coach and manage, and the highs and lows of leading what he still describes today as 'HIS CLUB'.
This is the blockbuster all the others wanted, but you'll only find the ultimate John Lyall Exclusive in the next two issues of EX.
Issue 16 will be on sale from August 14, at the home game v Wigan.
Also in this issue...Part 2 of the Ronnie Boyce exclusive. Boycie talks about his time as a coach under John Lyall and what he thinks of the club who sacked him.
Plus...John Hartson and Micky Newman and why EX's Terry Connelly has, after much soul searching, finally given up collecting current West Ham players" autographs!
