It has turned noticeably wintry over the past week or so with a couple of frosty nights, causing this pond to freeze, and really cold winds some days.
Last week I spent one of the better, still relatively warm, mornings planting out the lavender. The five dwarf white ones went into the long planter and two lots of five Munstead in rows alongside the paths.
I saw a fox padding along one of the nearby paths which reminded me to find Fox Junior who has been sitting hidden in the long grass, near the logpile. After giving him a brush down I moved him across the plot to sit under the blackberry bush.
The Canuck boys have now moved into the shed for the winter but will be out and about again next year.
There are still a couple of pot marigold flowers to be seen. They’ve not only been prolific but very long lasting as I first mentioned them nearly six months ago.
On BBC2 TV tomorrow evening at 9.00pm is an hour long Gardeners’ World Christmas Special in which Monty Don and the other regular presenters celebrate the festive season from a gardener’s point of view. Pam Ayres, poet and gardener, shows how she encourages wildlife into her garden.

Flighty's plot 
The lavender will be a great addition to your plot – mine is only in its second year but has already formed a wonderful bush, which, by the way, still has some flowers on it.

It looks like you’re getting it colder than us oop north, no frozen ponds here yet, though we started the week off with icy winds. It seems to have warmed up a little again today, though we’re forcast strong winds this afternoon. I saw Pam Ayres on the programmes about The Chelsea Flower Show and her garden looked fabulous, I’m looking forward to the Gardeners World special.

Thanks for telling me about the Gardeners World Special, looking forward to it. There aren’t enough gardening programmes on tv. Still haven’t had any significant frost here but the winds have been very cold. My winter hibernation has begun I think.

Yes, getting a bit wintry here, too. Nights are in the low 40s/high 30s. Like Elaine, I still have flowers on my lavender, too 🙂 Glad Fox Junior and the Canuck Boys are safely tucked away.

I always like the snowflakes on your blog at this time of year. We had the real thing yesterday but it is almost all gone now. I’m hoping for a white Christmas. : -)

Looking forward to the GW special tonight; I’ve missed my Friday evening dose of gardening TV! Amazing that your pond froze, Flighty – obviously all the buildings are keeping my corner of London a bit warmer. We had a slight frost on the rooftops earlier this week but it didn’t touch the ground and, last night, I didn’t even bother to put the heating on! Well done on getting your lavender planted! Caro xx
