How to Make a Reclaimed Shabby Chic Lamp Shade

I really enjoyed this project.  It was quick, easy, and beautiful.

Materials :

  • One well made used lamp shade that is easily attachable to any lamp.  (The project is more satisfying if the lamp shade starts out being super ugly)

  • Thin cotton fabric of choice  (I used off-white muslin) The amount of fabric will vary with the size of the lampshade.  I used approximately 2 yards for this lampshade which is 47 inches in diameter at it’s largest point.

  • Scissors

  • Hot Glue gun

Instructions:

  • Cut or rip fabric into squares.  (I ripped 3 inch squares) The smaller the squares the “funkier” it will look because there will be more corners to stand out.  If you make bigger squares it will have a softer look as the corners will droop a bit and not stand as erect.
  • Plug in glue gun.
  • Dab a dot of glue in the middle of one fabric square and then attach to lampshade.  I started in the upper middle part of the shade and worked my way around always working next to the previously glued square.

  • Continue until the lamp shade is covered with it’s new shabby chic goodness
  • Unplug glue gun
  • Attach lamp shade to lamp

  • Turn on lamp
  • Enjoy your new reclaimed shabby chic lamp shade!
