Aspen Valley Resort Properties
David Finholm is featured for this residence completed in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The home is an expansive 10,000 square feet with a "Parkitecture" feel and uses reclaimed woods for the timber frame. "I used stone and massive over-scaled beams to make the Pines house feel massive and substantial and to protect the other materials from the elements," he said. "It makes it feel big and bold."

David's design for the home is based on how his clients live. "The important thing about architecture is understanding how people live and function....The best thing about doing both the architecture and interior design is that we get a more harmonious, comprehensive and integrated home."

"What I try to do is design fun houses that don't compromise the design. I want my houses to be interesting, fun and exciting....It's all about living," he concluded.

Mountain Living Magazine, Home of the Year Winner 2005
"Where function did not dictate form, Finholm made sure to add details that would accentuate the home's quality of living. For example, he oriented the roof's angles and lifts so that the owners would have views of the canyon and not their neighbors. He also positioned the house so that the southern sun would filter through the evergreen forest behind the house."

"'It was the most difficult lot I've ever built on,' Finholm admits, 'But in the end we all felt the same: the house surpassed our highest expectations.'"

Published in the October 2005 Issue of Mountain Living and awarded the Home of the Year for 2005.

A custom residence set in the narrow canyon of Oak Creek just north of downtown Sedona, Arizona. The home was designed for 3 generations of family. The residence is 10,000 square feet and is 4 separate structures connected by interior bridges. The spaces include a bunk building with media and game rooms, an elevator tower building with a master suite, a bedroom building with 2 master and 2 guest suites, a 'public' building with kitchen, living and dining spaces and 7 1/2 total baths.

LOG & TIMBER STYLE
"David Finholm designed the home with mountain requirements in mind. 'Our goal was to control and take advantage of the sun, yet not allowit to overheat the home,' explains David...'and the decks are protected from the wind by the architecture, this is a very windy site.'"

Published in the August 2003 Issue of Log & Timber Style for a custom residence built in Guffey, Colorado. The 300 acre estate is set in the rolling hills with the Collegiate Mountain Range of 14,000 foot peaks off in the western view. The unique town of Guffey boasts a 40 person population.

We traveled from Aspen once a month to the site for construction meetings via a rented 4 person private aircraft and then drove from the landing strip 50 miles to the homesite.

The home is approximately 8000 square feet and includes an oversized open floor plan with dining, living, family and kitchen spaces, 2 master suites, 3 guest suites, a media room, a pool room, and 5 1/2 baths and as much glass as possible was used to take advantage of the uninterrupted views.
