Slow Cooked Pulled Pork

May 11, 2008

We have a restaurant here in Small Town that serves pulled pork sandwiches that are fabulous!  They aren’t like most pulled pork (that I’ve had at least) in the fact that the meat is cooked without the barbecue sauce.  The sandwiches are then served with onions and barbecue sauce on the side.  Ohhh, my lordy.  They are so good!  This is my version.

  • pork loin roast (2 lbs)
  • small onion, sliced
  • half bottle of beer (stolen from Farm Boy)
  • 1 Tbs. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbs. cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

Place pork roast in slow cooker.  Combine other ingredients and pour over roast.  Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or until pork is no longer pink.  Remove roast from slow cooker and pull apart with two forks.  Serve on rolls with raw onions and barbecue sauce if desired.

Serves: 8   WWP: 6  (figured without bun, barbecue sauce or raw onions)

Southern style BBQ means meat that’s cooked at a low temp for a long time. No self respecting southerner serves BBQ with sauce on it. Sauce is a condiment. That’d be like serving a hamburger off of your grill with mustard already on it.

Now cook that pork on a smoker and you’ll really have some good pulled pork.

    Cheers,
    Braddog

Thanks for the input! Its amazing how much recipes get changed and mangled as they move from one part of the country to another, isn’t it? I’ve always been very intrigued with Southern cooking, but you don’t find a lot of it in Wisconsin. (Grits? What the heck are grits?) If you have any recipes to share, I’d love to try them! =)
