About Us

We started For the Birds Nature Shop in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia to share our passion for nature with new and experienced wild bird and weather enthusiasts.  We invest countless hours researching, selecting and field testing the best-designed bird feeding equipment, birding optics and weather instruments to ensure our customers’ satisfaction.

As a family owned and operated business, we value “old-fashioned” quality, selection and service.  We ship orders all across Canada with our year round internet mail order service and operate a small seasonal retail showroom in Mahone Bay.

Our retail showroom is located at 647 Main Street in the Town of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada (Retail hours are limited, scroll down for details). 

Online shopping is available year round.  We only ship to addresses in Canada.

January through April - Retail Showroom Hours

Saturdays: 10am - 4pm (some exceptions, see note)

Note that we are also closed New Year's Day, February 4th and Easter Weekend (Good Friday through Easter Monday).

May through December - Retail Showroom Hours

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 10am – 4pm,
Sundays: Noon – 4pm

Mondays & Tuesdays: CLOSED

Holidays: CLOSED

Note that we are also CLOSED: September 1 - 9th inclusive, Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday & Monday, December 24 - 31.

Directions: Take Hwy 103 to Exit 10.  Turn right at the stop sign onto Hwy 3.  Follow the road into the town of Mahone Bay.  You’ll pass the three churches that we are famous for and come to a 3-way intersection with a Cenotaph Monument.  Keep to the left and turn left at the stop sign.  You are now on Main Street.  Follow the road for about 200 metres, we are on the left side (water side) in a large grey building, number 647.  There is customer parking for our retail showroom directly behind our building.  We are approximately 1 hour from Halifax, 2 1/4 hours from Digby and 2 1/2 hours from Yarmouth. 

If you are coming to our retail showroom to pick up a specific item, we strongly recommend that you call and reserve your item(s) in advance.
