I Hope You Dance by Gladys Knight (Music Video) Sunday, January 17, 2009

05_Flatbed_2 AUGUST

Song used in the movie, The Family That Preys

Lyrics

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leaves you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….
I hope you dance,

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they’re worth taking,
Loving might be a mistake but it’s worth making
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance…

[Sung over the top::]
Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years
and wonder where those years have gone.

I hope you dance….
I hope you dance,
I hope you dance….
I hope you dance,

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance….

[Sung over the top::]
Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years
and wonder where those years have gone.

I hope you dance,
I hope you dance….
I hope you dance,
I hope you dance….
I hope you dance,

Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years
and wonder where those years have gone.

  5. I felt a tug at my heart strings when Ms Gladys sang this song.I have heard it by other singers before and we had deeply considered using it at my grandson’s funeral services when he died.He died at the age of 4 from bone cancer and we felt the song was so moving and wish we had it by Gladys at the time of the service..which has been a few years ago. Sadly it was not available……..Oh, what a treasure it would have been, and now to hear it so sweetly.

  6. Hi J! Thanks for stopping by. Bless you and your family. I will certainly keep you lifted in prayer. You know it’s not so easy to make me cry…but this version broke the ice. I found myself listening to it over and over and over…you know. For some reason it is extremely popular right now. Even though it may not officially be a worship or gospel song; it is so anointed…it is Divinely inspirational! I know how it is to lose a loved one so my prayers truly go out to you and I pray that God will totally take the grief away! Love you so much and please if you ever have a prayer request or any comment expect an answer immediately! We call you a friend…at Cafe Sozo! Blessings & Love Lanke!

  9. I just saw the movie last night, and Gladys Knight’s version of “I hope I can dance” is the best I ever heard. I always loved that song but she puts it in a totallly inspiring category. Beautiful!! Not found on I-tunes either. Please let me know if any one has found it… I can’t wait to buy it!! Thank you for letting us hear it through Faith Center! God Bless.

  10. I heard this song again after watching the movie by accident{ channel surfing}and I want to say I cannot get enough of it– so what I’m trying to say is– it’s playing over and over again. Not to be morbid- but I am getting ready to prepare the home going events for a close relative and this is so fitting. She is dying of breast cancer and I have the honor to complete the final celebration. No disrepect to Lee Ann–but Gladys- does it better. Thanks for being here- this sight is truly an inspiration with the music. You Know–I Think I’ll Dance–“GOD” bless you all. Brenda

  11. Hi Brenda! Thank you so much for dropping by. I know what you mean. I have felt the same way. We will be praying for your friend’s family and friends. Please come back and see us! Blessings & Love

  12. Song is so very beautiful I think of my sister who passed away from Colon cancer 7 months ago today love the music thank you for the inspiration

  13. I cry when I hear this song. I am writing a book about my life experiences and how I was able to get through each trail and tribulation by the grace of God. This song hits everything on the head. It is just so awesome the way Ms. Knight sings this song. It shoud be turned into a gospel song. It is that beautiful.

  14. My wife and I love the song the way only Gladys Knight can sing it. Her rich earthy voice is full of anointing and reality that God gifted her with.

We lost a daughter at birth and our next to youngest son at age 23 to lymphoblastic lymphoma cancer. A tall, handsome, loving young who was the champion of children and a man young who went from healthy to death in a year. This song would have been wonderful at his funeral but even better for his life.

Thank you Gladys for remaking and singing it the way it should be song.

  15. Dearest Paul, Bless you and your wife. There must be something there because so many of us feel the same exact way. We get so many comments where people aree saying the same thing, remembering loved ones. You know…I will be praying for you guys. I appreciate your taking the time to write …Blessings & Love E

  16. This is a beautiful song no matter who sings it. Gladys Knight, Carrie Underwood do a wonderful job but I wish Barbra Straisand would blow !!!!!! it for me.

  17. am studying hard for medical school after my undergraduate program and this song is my official studying song. i will not fear those mountains in the distance! this song is the best there ever was.

  18. Oh Nana! That is so beautiful! It’s Your Time! We will hold you in our hearts and in our prayers! Blessings & Love

  19. Hi Theodore! Bless you so much! We have such a backlog so we apologize for our belated response. Try Amazon.com
    Blessings & Love

  20. Hi Marques! Bless you! You’re not alone! You are welcome to come back anytime. Stay Blessed!

  21. this song remake by ms knight uplifts & awakes faith, dreams & hopes long dead.for the first time i heard the song i was motivated & uplifted to a level i have neva been before.

  22. HI Mabina! We totally agree with you! Thanks for your comments! Blessings and Love!

  23. Who says men can’t be moved by a song? I feel very sorry for any human being who listens to this and fails to experience the beauty and inspiration of the words. Belt it out Gladys, as only you can!

  24. This song is so uplifting it a shame I cant purchase it. I am a true fan of Gladys. This song truely fits her style. The arrangement and background choir are perfect. I totaly agree with George. Men are moved by love songs but egos dont allow most men to show that most needed human emotion.

  25. I heard this song for the first time when I watched Tyler Perry’s movie. I cried because of the movie (so touching), and then that song!!! I am from a large, very close family of 9 siblings. We lost dad 13 years ago and a sister to breast cancer almost 6 years ago (buried her on Christmas Eve, 2004). I miss both of them very much and cry every time I hear that song. We no longer celebrate Father’s Day and no longer get together for Christmas because of the pain it causes us because of the missing two. I know they are dancing up in heaven though with the other family relatives and friends that went before and after them!!!!As someone said previously, I wish we had that song to play at the home going services of my dad and sister. I pray for everyone who has ever lost a loved one because I know how painful it is, especailly when you spend your entire lives being so close.

  26. i heard this song earlier this year when i watch the movie it was a wonderfull song, sang beautifully by Glady’s Knight i was so moved by the words of the song and how so true the words were when i look at mylife, i say it should be a gospel song dont you all think?
thank you Gladys for your earthy voice that make this song so inspiring to think twice about who you are and where are you going as a person.

    looooovely song !!

  27. I saw the movie when it first came out, had heard the song several times before by others and wanted to learn the words. When Ms. Knight sang it in the movie, I was blown away. I purchased the movie just so I could listen to her sing and now thanks to you, I have all of the words. Bless You

  28. I just watched The family that preys again and for the first time paid attention to the words of the song. Can’t believe I skipped it before!
It’s so deep and moving. I’m going to remember this song when it gets tough…

  29. A truly inspiring song! I had to listen to it over and over again after watching the film “The Family That Preys”. The words are so beautifully woven that the song remains beautiful nomatter who sings it. But Gladys did wonders with it. I couldn’t wish for anything better than this!

  30. I really, really, REALLY love Gladys sway to this song. I’ve really been waiting for the release of this song. PPPLLLEASE!!!!!!

  31. Have not heard this beautiful a song in years. The words… the oh so angelic voice of Gladys Knight made it enchanting.
