Getting Started
So you’ve decided you want to use real nappies. This is a good introduction to
the basics!
You will need:
· 20 nappies (minimum for one baby) of your choice.(Look here at all the different styles)
·
3 waterproof wraps of each
size (to be replaced as your baby grows) if you are using two part nappies such as terries, prefolds or fitted. (These will not need to be replaced every time you change baby, though
plastic ones can be rinsed and dried quickly)
You will NOT need wraps if you are using all-in-one or Pocket Nappies, nappies where the waterproof wrap forms part of the nappy.
Nappy liners (disposable or reusable)
· Booster pads (for extra absorbency)
· Nappy bucket
· Laundry mesh (optional)
· Sanitiser (optional)
· Wet bag (optional) for when you are out and about
How to decide which real nappy is best for you
A wide variety of things need to be considered when deciding which nappy will be best for you, including your budget and your lifestyle. For example, do you need nappies that will be easy for other members of the family or a nursery to use, perhaps those that have poppers or Velcro; do you want stylish as well as practical, environmentally friendly? How will you dry nappies when it is wet outdoors?
Read the Using Real Nappies section to get a greater idea of the sort of things you will need to consider

these categories:

Size
Depending on the style of nappy you choose,
you may need to buy more nappies as your baby grows. Other types offer 'birth to potty' sizing and you will only need to buy one.
Fabric
Real nappies are manufactured in both manmade
and natural fibres and some nappies even mix and match, to get the best
of both worlds. Each fabric has its pros and cons, so be sure to do your research.
