God the Matchmaker

Some thoughts about the first ever Matchmaker ever.

1. "alone" vs "incomplete" (Gen 2:18)
I recall reading an interesting article written by Grace about how people often mistake singlehood as a sign of being incomplete. Since when was it ever written that after God took those ribs Man (or woman) became incomplete? For once, a relationship can only be successful between 2 complete singles. At any time one of them falls/dies, the other still remains complete. "Till death do us part".. and even afterwards.

2. God uses everything (Adam's experience & expertise) to prepare Man for his eventual encounter with Woman. (v. 19, 22-23)
I'm thankful God gave Adam time and opportunities to brush up on his name-calling skills and eloquence before meeting Eve. Can't imagine if God were to let Adam meet Eve first before meeting, say, the "Baboons", the "Lizards", the "Iguana", the "Hyenas". I'm doubtful something as meaningful as "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh..." could proceed out of his mouth! [So, guys out there who are still singles, could it be that during this waiting period there is something that God wants you to learn about before letting you meet that special someone? ;)]

3. Adam knew God first before Eve. Similarly, Eve met God first before Adam. (In v. 22 God "made" and "brought" Eve to Adam.) Both had personal encounters with their Makers first.

4. God recognised Adam's need, probably even before him realising it himself! God is definitely not just a "spiritual" God who is interested in how many sins you committed today, how much time you spent praying and all those religious stuffs. He does not neglect Man's basic needs for an intimate relationship. He is concerned with your love life too!

5. God is careful and delicate enough to not cause hurt. That's why He gave Adam a "deep sleep". He does a fantastic surgery job ever too in "closing up the flesh in its place". Just like the best surgeon, he knows each organ and puts every one of them in its place. He does not wish to cause unbearable hurt to Man and thus may allow moments of rest with Him, in Him.

6. Can you imagine what would have happened if Adam refuses to surrender one of his ribs? Perhaps we would never have heard of Eves at all. Being a gentleMan as He always is, God never forces things out of us. Could it be that God is asking us for our ribs - something close to our heart - too? "Precious child, surrender one of your ribs in exchange for a greater glory".

7. God was there throughout the entire process of waiting and meeting. He saw the need and initiated the meeting, "bringing the woman to the man". In the same way, let's involve Him in every stage of our relationship. From waiting, to initiating, to following up.

8. God could have made all the decisions, that Adam was to take Eve as his wife, that Eve would live with Adam happily ever after etc. But He wouldn't. Adam himself has to take that action and break the silence. Inaction is often the culprit for unsuccessful relationship.

9. However far/near the distance between the 2 of them, bringing the 2 together is never a problem for God. There was no mention of Adam's location when God made Eve. The point is, God could still bring Eve to Adam. Distance does not matter.

10. There is a time to work; A time to mate. Adam faithfully keeps on working and does not go around whining for someone. Adam remains focused on whatever task God entrusted him with. The time would come when Eve finally appeared. Similarly, your time will come guys. Don't be fixated solely on your hunger for relationships. God knows it all. In due time He makes it all beautiful. Just trust Him and stay focused on whatever work God gave you right now.
