Q. What are the covers made of?
A. Our hose covers are made of 1050 ballistic nylon (the heaviest available). Look for it on high-end motorcycle gear. There is a light polyurethane coating on the inside of the hose covers. Our hose sleeves are made from a dense nylon weave that will disrupt a 3000 PSI stream of fluid.
Q. Aren't hose covers expensive?
A. No. Hose protection typically increases hose life 50% or more where abrasion and external abuse is a problem. Years of experience have shown that covers lower hose assembly operating costs from 15-40%. Also factor in the added safety.
Fact: Not using hose covers is expensive.
Q. How long do they last?
A. There is no standard answer for that one. Product life varies depending on the circumstances. Hose covers do wear out. The answer to this question is a question:
What would you rather replace - $200.00 of cover or a $1,000.00 hose assembly?
Q. How heavy are they?
A. 100 feet of the Bulldog hose cover weighs approximately 20 lbs.
100 feet of hose sleeve (to cover a 2" ID hose) weighs approximately 12 lbs.
Q. Are they a hassle to handle?
A. Not any more than the hose itself. The covers are light and flexible. They do not absorb fluids and "grab" very little dirt and mud.
Q. How do they go on?
A. Hose covers are secured with a longitudinal strip of 1.5" high-pressure velcro and one strap at each end to close the cover. (See images on products page.) Nothing to snag, and no buckles or snaps. The cover stays closed when you need it to, but opens easily for hose inspection. Hose sleeves are sized to slide over one end of an assembly. They are secured with bands over the end ferrules. Some people use cable ties.
