HDSI's Supportive Services link residents to supportive, medical and social services provided by public and nonprofit agencies within the jurisdiction of the proposed housing facility.

The goals of Supportive Services are:

  1. Assure a high quality of life for residents;
  2. Enable residents to retain their autonomy and "age in place" for as long as possible;
  3. Work with residents on a case-management basis to provide available assistance for their particular needs;
  4. Ease a resident's transition to increased care when "in-home" independent living is no longer an option; and
  5.   Assist in maintaining a network of informal and formal support systems within each building's neighborhood.

To meet these goals, HDSI Supportive Services provide:

1. Resources and information within a network of community officials and organizations that assist elderly and disabled people;
2. Assistance with a variety of services requested or needed by the community, such as case management, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), on-site and home-delivered meal services, transportation information and assistance, preventive health screenings, and legal advocacy through nonprofit agencies;
3. Customized services that assure individualized, flexible and creative assistance;
4. A local directory of service supplies and suppliers;
5. Educational presentations and seminars about issues;
6. Advocacy on behalf of residents. This includes utility overage charges, denial of service and/or other appeals; and
7. Programs, such as exercise classes, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, social activities, literacy courses and educational outings.
