The great American satirist Tom Lehrer, in his song satirizing mathematics education “New Math”, referred to his desire to write a math textbook called Tropic of Calculus, a spin on the then-popular, moderately pornographic novel Tropic of Cancer. In honor of Lehrer, this site is so named.

This site was created by and is administered by Jonah Greenthal for the AP Calculus BC classes at New Trier High School. Anyone else is certainly welcome to use it as well, but the AP Questions section must, for legal reasons, remain off-limits.

The goal of this site is to provide review of calculus topics covered in class and to provide opportunities to students to enhance their learning with places for discussion and practice problems. In-class handouts are provided for students who missed class, but this website should not serve as a substitute for regular attendance of class.

If additional calculus or general mathematics help is desired, New Trier students are encouraged to meet with their teacher or to go to the Math Resource Room, room 273. Students and a teacher are there at all times and are excellent at providing assistance.

Thanks to Carlo Angiuli, Art of Problem Solving’s TeXer and latex2html for making LaTeX absurdly convenient, the New Trier staff, the developers of the fantastic MuPAD Pro, and the proofreaders.
