As someone who used to work in local theatre, you had better bet that one of my picks this week for my favorite holiday outings was going to definitely be a dose of live theatre.

The show of all holiday shows, a timeless classic as relevant today as it ever was, and a Seattle tradition since 1976, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens runs now through December 24th at Seattle’s Act Theatre. Adapted by Gregory A. Falls and directed by Allison Narver, this performance is not to be missed! And could start a holiday tradition that is sure to hook the little ones on live theatre.

This story of “Bah, humbug” Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited on Christmas Eve by three ghosts who show the old miser what life, and the spirit of Christmas, is really all about stars local veteran actors Jeff Steitzer and David Pichette. They play the leading character in alternating performances so you will never be disappointed!

The show is presented in an intimate, somewhat interactive, theatre-in-the-round format and takes the viewer along on a magical journey through the entire range of human emotions as it visits Scrooge’s Christmases past, present and future, with fun special effects, touching moments and great comic relief.

A non-profit organization itself, ACT is also giving back to others this holiday season throughout the run with the Tiny Tim Fund, a shared donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital and ACT’s Young Playwrights Program, supporting the health and artistic growth of the young people in our region. Patrons ordering tickets to A Christmas Carol will be encouraged to add a $2 donation to their order to support both causes.

ACT is also hosting a special benefit performance of A Christmas Carol for Seattle Children’s Hospital this Friday, December 9th at 6:30pm. The event will feature drinks, a pre-show dinner, and a silent auction, as well as special tickets for children complete with kids buffet and an arts and crafts room with entertainment just for them! This show is appropriate for ages 5 and up.

ACT is located in downtown Seattle at the old Eagles Hall, Kreielsheimer Place, 700 Union St. Tickets for all performances can be purchased here. But hurry! Some performances are already sold out!

Oh! And while you are there (and if you are over 21!) you must try the Bailey’s hot chocolate! 😉

What is your favorite holiday live performance?
