Soul Food

Before I begin, let me say that this may be my last post. Okay, just kidding — but seriously, I am expecting some repercussions from tonight’s dinner….

There comes a point in a man’s life when he has to ask himself some serious questions. Tonight was such a night for me. When I say “serious” questions, I am not referring to your garden-variety problem of evil or meaning of life questions. No, I am talking about questions like, “Would sausage fried in bacon grease be good?” and, “Should the butter go on the waffle before the ice cream?”

When we moved to the South, I thought, “Is southern cooking good?” and “When can I try some?” Well, friends, tonight I answered both of those questions. (I also found out that there is no such thing as southern “cooking” — it’s “cookin'”). Tonight I had a date with soul food.
