Contraire. Well, I got in the newspaper and I got on television and you’re looking at me on the internet, but I’m not in the history books yet.
Each person’s vision of beauty, of art, is based on past experiences. So, like impressionism (which took about twenty years) it will take time for contraire to happen.
I have made and sold an amazing amount of art but I never fit into the gallery by gallery and showing by showing world of most artists. I like to make things, not talk about them. And I’m not a salesman either. When I first started making the stained glass windows I would leave town with about eighty of them in an old station wagon. Strong pieces of art, they would sell themselves wherever I stopped. The contraire is by far a stronger piece of art than the windows ever were. They’re the strongest art I have ever seen. Put one beside any other picture, even one of a nude and your eye goes straight to the contraire.
Prints. And I thought about it a long time before deciding not to limit the print editions. I want as many people as I can to enjoy this new way of painting. My age will definitely limit the prints that will be made and signed by me. The earlier dates should be more valuable in time to come.
Originals. If nothing else, just buy one and throw it in your closet. Maybe it will put your grandkids through college, who knows.
Frames. The nature of contraire is that the colored mat completes the picture. And they need that off-white frame to complete the look. This is the only kind of painting where this holds true.
