How To: Hard factory reset the HTC Desire HD

The HTC Desire HD is highly customizable and you have been hard at work tweaking it to your liking, but now the fun is over and you want to return it to its factory settings again.

There are a few posts on the web about how to do this except I have found that most of these are inaccurate. Here, I show you what I have found on the web and how to really hard factory reset the HTC Desire HD with step by step instructions.

Please note that all data will be deleted from the HTC Desire HD as a result of this procedure. This process may or may not delete data stored on the microSD card. Backing up all of your personal data before proceeding is highly recommended.

  1. Turn off your HTC Desire HD. If your HTC Desire HD is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it. In order to hard reset the desire you must pull the battery out for a few seconds.
  2. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. You must press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and POWER button at the same time and wait to be presented with the bootloader menu.
  3. Wait for the creen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button. Here at Knezev we found the three Android images never appeared and we were automatically presented with the boot loader screen.
  4. Press the VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET (CLEAR STORAGE), and then press the POWER button.
  5. VOLUME UP for YES and VOLUME DOWN for NO.

All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Desire HD. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.
