I am pleased to inform you that the Magic Tree House room is complete.
We want to say a special thank you to our client Deborah who had a big part in the overall direction of the project (it helps to have a client with a great eye for design, color, and space). We hope to do more work with her in the future. THANKS DEBORAH!!
The room now has a swing and a climbing rope for the kids (pulls in the overall look)
The armoire quickly became a large focus element within the room – including with it a fun element for the kids (the library ladder). The armoire was designed to fit within the overall look of the room and was painted with the same techniques used on the floor armoire below the treehouse. The standing armoire was also wired for the families TV in order to make a clean look. Size of the armoire comes out to almost 11 feet by 9 feet (BIG!)
The rope detail at the top of the ladder and the drybrushing on all the hardware was added in order to pull in elements from the treehouse (on the other side of the room).
Other details of the armoire…The lock is so vintage-looking!
multiple doors and drawers.
Yes, that’s a flat screen TV in the middle. The TV makes this room a great location for a quiet night of movies, or exciting Wii competitions for the entire family. You can store your favorite DVDs and Wii games in any of the drawers. Have your pick.
Let’s take a look at the other side of the room.
Note the new vegetable signs we added. Don’t they make that corner much more fun than it used to be?
Looking down from the tree house. The “vegetable buckets” are great containers for crayons, scissors and what not.
The best part is, once the kids are done with drawing, you can just lift the table up and it becomes a magnetic chalk board. A great place to proudly display the children’s artwork. (our client Deborah found a great recipe online for mixing our own chalkboard paint in order to match the sky blue – it worked great) It took 7 coats of magnetic paint and 3 coats of chalkboard blue —- YIKES!
O, and folding the table up is not the only way to create extra space, here’s all the storage space you get.
The inside of the drawers are carpeted, so delicate things are welcomed 🙂
(same carpet as in the treehouse floor)
Older photos…
We will be updating on this project (for the last time) very soon. Please keep checking our blog.
It’s beautiful and I’m sure the workmanship, from what I can see in the photos, is superior. Problem as I see it though, is when your little one is sick or scared or just needs a story. You can’t easily sit by the side of the bed and work that parental magic – or park a pail there for him/her to “shoot the bird” when their tummy is upset.
I think this is a playroom not a bedroom.
You are correct.
We have never referred to it as a bedroom.
It is a playroom / family room.
wow! this is sooooooooooooo amazing!! I am loving it and it’s such a wonderful play area 🙂 it’s so imaginative, i love the tree trunk underneath the treehouse and the tree in the middle of the room with the tree canopy painted on the ceiling. so cute 🙂
Wow I wish I could have had a house like that as a kid
[…] Kids love treehouses. But sometimes a kid can’t have one because of small back yards, an overly worried helicopter parent, or a dad who simply doesn’t have the construction gene in his DNA. Well, there’s not much that can be done about the last one, except whipping out the checkbook and hiring a contractor, but even the most hovering parent would be impressed by this indoor treehouse bedroom designed and built by the gang at KidTropolis. […]
pfft you can’t outgrow a treehouse!!! i had a loft bed that height well through college and even after… you never outgrow a room as cool as that. 😀
Wow, this is great work. A shame that we have just decorated the rooms of our boys…. 😉
i want one!
Hello!!!
Your work is incredible! Gorgeous! Fun! Bless you!
I’m blogging you!
:-)*
That looks wonderful, congratulations!
I would have loved such room when I was a kid
This is soo beautiful and amazing! I’m totally in love with this treehouse! =)
I would love to see close-ups of the window. It is hard to see what is on the window.
Can you also take pictures of the other side of the room? I would like to see the entrance.
Great Job. Keep up the good work.
it’s wonderful, my congratulations! i’m going to “steal” some ideas and rearrange my baby’s room;)
good job
I think we all tripped when we saw this! AWESOME!!!!
I would just like to know, how long did it take ?? and how much $$??
OMG!! This is absolutely the COOLEST room ever!!!
I’m an interior designer in Singapore. My wife’s carrying our 1st baby (a BOY!!) and we are madly researching for ideas for our 1st nursery.
Chanced upon your site only 2 days ago and immediately bookmarked it! We simply love your site and this room is my FAVOURITE!
I also have a blog @ http://www.amatteroftayzt.blogspot.com. May I have your permission to post pics of this room? Would really appreciate it.
Thanks a whole bunch for inspiring us! Please keep up the good work!
wow, nice
This is FANTASTIC! I just stumbled upon your blog while searching for ideas for our playroom make-over. We are ctually doing a big kid one and alittle guy playroom and I LOVE this idea 🙂
How did you make the trees in the center of the room? What material are the tree trunks made from?
The tree interior framework is a combination of framing and ribs with chicken wire mesh overtop. The mesh is then covered with layers of a product called DesignCast 66 – a sculpting product that can be used inside or outside (very strong stuff)
Would you share the paint color names? The green for the grass and tree canopy is very nice and I would like to match it.
I really like this room! It gives me new breath of inspiration!
Matt – we had the same thought as you. We ended up putting 2 locks high out of the reach of children (one of which is a safety the stays locked until about 2 feet off the wall) – the table also has spring loaded hinges that keep it from dropping fast. Thanks for taking a look.
Absolut amazing!!! Congratulations!
ohhh how great it must be, being a child in such a room – linke alice in wonderland – i love it so much
This looks so good. My son has a loft in his room and now that he is getting older we plan on utilizing it. Many great ideas in this project.
Mom of a 4yr old.
This is the cutest room I’ve ever seen in my life. Love it!! Great job.
It’s very beautiful, nice job 🙂

These are the most AMAZING designs I have seen yet! I told my wife that we should search the web to try and find ideas/examples of how to build a tree for our baby’s room – and I happened upon this site.
I would love to hear if you provided any advice since we are doing a baby jungle themed room. We are thinking of creating a corner fake tree that would go up the entire wall with branches out on each side of the wall as well as along the ceiling itself.
Any ideas/advice would be MUCH appreciated. We only have 6 weeks to go
Wauw,!!!
This really looks nice man!
Excellent! Beautiful project! It is a pity that you do not work in Russia: (
Daniil,
We work anywhere. 🙂
welcome to Russia!!!:)
where could you buy products for this room theme ? 🙂
All elements of the room are were custom created for the client. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
That is awsome, congrats to the family who gets to use and play with that room each an everyday. Lucky kids/ I am soo jealous why didn’t we have anything like this when I was a kid? When I have a child I am definatly coming to you guys for the ultimate family room, play room and bedroom for the kids. Oh I can’t wait!!!
Keep up the great work. Your whole team is so talented, the do a great/awsome job each and every project that I have seen.
Amazing! I was searching for ideas for the kids room, now that I know I’m expecting another baby girl and I found Kidtropolis by case. I have no words! It’s the dream of every kid and I would love to have a room decorated that way, but I’m living in Italy. Do you have any branch in Europe?
🙂 🙂 🙂
beautifully 🙂
This is incredibly cute and wonderful and makes me a) want to build one for my kids and b) build something comparable for me, too.
Theres just one thing that freaks me out:
What on earth ist is a big flatscreen (or any other kind of) TV doing in a children’s room for children of this age???
“The TV makes this room a great location for a quiet night of movies, or exciting Wii competitions for the ENTIRE family.”
It is not just for the kids. Thanks.
Good morning, Kistropolis!
I do love your design ideas!
I dream about the round children bed for my little son. The bed was in your project with a magic tree and a lot of mushrooms everywhere. 🙂
Can I just order one? Can your deliver such bed to Russia (after the full payment)?
Thanks!

Hello, I would be interested in seeing the “during” photos of this. We are attempting to do something similar for a kids area at our church. Could you help out with the “how to’s” for a DIY project? Thank you!
Myra,
we don’t have any pictures during the install process. If you would like to discuss it more please feel free to give us a call at 703-668-0100 x701 and ask for David.

I am usually not super emotional but I admit this brought one or two tears into my eye. It is absolutely beautiful and I envy any child who will have the pleasure playing in this wonderful creation and yes, really does bring out my inner child 🙂

It’s so beautiful! I loved it.
I’m from Brazil, and I’d like to know how much is a Kidtropolis like this.
And would like to know if you come here to install.
Hi!! this is an AWESOME job..Well done..!!!!! Can i ask whats the matterial you used to make the trees??
hi! my cousin has enlisted me and a carpenter to try and mimic your work to the best of our abilities and material limitations…
can you tell me how you did the painting? it seems everything is outlined; is it outlined in colored marker, then filled in?
thanks!
hey guys i absolutly love this! i have a question tho– what did you use for the tree trunks? if you ordered them– can you tell me you supplier??
Morgan,
Those trees are made from a combination of wood and wire mesh as under underlying armature and then overtop is a product called DesignCast66 – an interior and exterior sculpting compound.
This is truly spectacular! We have one of those ugly posts in our basement, which the previous owner covered in sisal rope. My cats love it, but it’s not exactly my style. Turning it into a tree is genius! Can you elaborate on how you attached the swing to the ceiling. That’s something we’ve been wanting to do, but I haven’t been sure it’s possible. Clearly, it is! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Julianne,
You can attach swings to your ceiling a few different ways. The easiest is to buy standard ceiling anchor brackets used for swings, or you can use ceiling brackets used for hanging heavy bags used for boxing (they work great too). You then need to find your ceiling floor joists or roof trusses depending what floor you are on in your home or apartment etc. (If your ceiling is concrete it will still work by using concrete anchor bolts) Then simply bolt the anchors into the truss or joist in the ceiling and you will be swingin.
Thanks,
Chris
너무 멋지네요 잘보고 갑니다!!
It’s very beautiful, nice job!!!
[…] Seriously. I only WISH I’d had this as a kid. I would have always been bad, if only to be banished to this room! Do check out more cool pics of this space via Kidtropolis. […]
My 6YO daughter is a huge fan of the Magic Tree House books and has read every one of them. She would flip over this! (I already have flipped… several times.) This would make a perfect playroom set up. Can you imagine sitting in that tree house when the wind starts to blow? 🙂 Amazing job. Just beautiful! (And shared on the Magic Tree House Facebook page, too!)
How do I get this done to my loft?! I have been trying to find someone to create this!
Jamie,
Feel free to give us a call:)
This is just wonderful! Incredible! A true wonderland!
