Love and Compassion in Every Stitch
Serving Coast to Coast
Mission:
To use the technique of creating quilts to promote tolerance, education and emotional support and healing in our vast and diverse community
Goals:
To construct quilt panels for those we have lost to illnesses
To increase public awareness by exchanging stories and information during quilting workshops and displays
To help organize fundraisers for community based service organizations by conducting various quilt displays
To make quilts to help keep people warm who are suffering from long term and chronic illnesses.
To make baby items for orphaned AIDS babies in Africa and El Salvador.
The Healing Quilt Project of the Ozarks was started in August 2003 by Rick McCormack and Michael Ardagno. The organization was built off of the idea of the national organization of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The local organization makes panels for those who hwave been lost to various illnesses and quilts to keep people warm that are suffering from long term and chronic illnesses. The quilts and panels are made at the workshops by McCormack and Ardagno. There is also an outside volunteer who sends quilts to the workshop that she ahs completed at her home. Volunteers are always welcome at the workshop to help with cutting squares and doing other tasks.

The Healing Quilt Neighborhood Food Pantry
Along with making quilts and panels, the organization has open the Healing Quilt Neighborhood Food Pantry. This food pantry works a little differently than other food pantries around the area. The pantry focuses on the special needs of clients.
Clients are given a profile to complete. This profile notes the client's likes and dislikes and their illness or other special needs that may require special foods. The list is then sent to a nutritionist who can provide special recipes and recommendations of foods that the client can try out.
A STORY OF TRAGEDY AND TRIUMPH
On Father's Day, June 20, 2006, the two men who run the Healing Quilt project came home from church Sunday morning to find their home full of flames and smoke. They thought they had lost everything. But through their dedication and the strength of their community, they persevered. Read of their tragedy, their commitment, and their faith in the News Leader, June 20, 2006.
