The American Vampire League July 24, 2008

I work in the exact center of mid-town Manhattan. Any given day I am offered leaflets or advertising postcards from no less than 10 people. Usually I do what any non tourist would do and ignore the sad sacks. After all, what could possibly be so interesting.

Well, today that changed. I don’t know if it was the engaging t-shirts the people were wearing or… wait, did here shirt say “Support the Vampire Rights Amendment”? Sure enough, the people were giving out postcards and buttons in support of an organization called the “American Vampire League”. Now the marketing guy in me was exited. “Did I get in on the ground floor for a new viral marketing campaign?”

Yep. Turns out the swag is a not so subtle marketing stunt for a new show on HBO. So far they have a few videos posted on YouTube and a Facebook group. I haven’t found out any details regarding the show itself, but the website linked at the bottom of this post is the supposed official site of the AVL.

I’m very excited about whatever show this is. I LOVE all things vampiric. My favorite movie is the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi and I’ve got a cherished original theater poster drawn by Edward Gorey of a run of the play in NYC in the 70s.

I’ll post more details when I can find them. For now, here are some pics of the swag.

UPDATE:

Well, I’m not quite on the ground floor as much as I thought.   Apparently the viral campaign has been going for a bit longer than I thought.   If you’ve seen any of the Tru-Blood commercials on TV, those are part of the same viral marketing campaign.  The campaign is for an HBO show called “True Blood”.  It premieres on September 7th and it’s from the guy that brought you “6 Feet Under”.   I now have very, very high hopes for this show.  I’ve posted a few more links to some of the related sites.

Next to the Absolut “BeKanye” campaign, the Tru Blood beer ads are probably my favorite late-night spots.

I hope HBO gives this show a fair shake…

So there’s not really a REAL American Vampire League? It was just invented to help market the show? Because they sure do make it seem pretty believable. Not that I truly believe in undead vampires needing to suck blood to survive or anything….just need some clarification is all. 🙂

i am also sanguine (blood drinker) or vampyre. i dont need to feed all the time and i do not kill to feed. when im drained im weak and irritable as i am now not having a donor in 3 months. i dont know much about this american vampyre league personally i think its a bad idea since naturally people fear us and i feel that much blood would be shed. the world is still too close minded to accept how many vampyres they pass on a daily basis.

some of us are dangerous yes, but i know many of our kind that are amazing people…more honorable than most non vampyres. should an entire race of people be held accountable for the crimes of a few? i dont think so.

id be happy to answer any questions you have as well. feel free to email me at jadesfire04@yahoo.com.

Poeple who dont believe are idiots…. There are vampires out there! If you would actually open your eyes and do some research you will find that there are different types of vampires, not all are blood sucking “things”…. there are people who can channel there enegry and take from others, there are “sexual vampires”, “flesh eaters” or as we know them cannibals. Just because you havent seen them or heard much about them doesnt mean they doent exist… I mean deamons and angels do, so who’s to say vampires dont!

Okay,so i personally know three vampires and one of them just so happen to be my boyfriend. I’ve known since i was little from growing up in New Orleans that vampyres have existed, and now one of them “live” and sleep in my home. Is my life dangerous? Slightly, but i wouldn’t change it for the world. So other humans ans vampyres aike need to hsut up and deal. Questions? Comments? Hate mail? Info? email me at trinicybloodchick@yahoo.com lame email, yes,i kno,but it works. Any sites with info on them that could be helpful, let me know. Thank you all 🙂

I am a new vampire. I have just went though my awakening! I am also a sang vamp (blood drinker), but would like to learn how to PSI Feed.

All my life I thought vamps were just in movies and something the goth kids played dress up as. When I went to my doctor with some changes my body has been going though he told me there is nothing wrong with me, I am a perfectly healthy 24 year old male. So I wanted to do my own research. When I typed everything into the search engine on google, the first thing that showed up was “Awakening”. When I seen that I was like WTF, and became very confused. I am still getting use to the whole thing.
