  7. 5 stars so far for AN, JK and orchestra. I'm reasonably impressed with Dasch. A bit of a step down from the above, to be sure, but I hope she doesn't get slammed as is usually and (somewhat) undeservadly, the case. Can't wait for Herlitzius as Orturd. Act II underway.

  8. with you marcillac :-) she is surviving better than expected... you will be happy nozze things are in their way... wasn't happy with her there... That was very under par. Off to act 2, enjoyyyy.. i adore the gold from the orchestra!!!

  9. A bit more trouble for Dasch in the II but more and more impressed with Nilsons. EH's voice is HUGE.

  10. well, Elsa is tough but she has survived so far... not like EH at all too harsh , to wobbly, everything i don't much like.. and i adore this role! Especially like that beginning scene to 2nd act and where was the smooth, deadly lower thing she needed? oh well can't all be heavenly :-) The rest still is :-)))) May i say this Wagner sounds like good Verdi? ( oh hell, i just killed 100 wagnerians with just two words;-))))) but it is gorgeous, whatever it is, really driven , really intense, a total pleasure to listen to! :-)

going to get a quick desert :-))) cookies and tea :-)

  11. Where is the champagne ?? One is supposed to drink it during this LONG intervals...

Loving Nilsons and the orchestra ! The chorus is divine and Jonas ..is Jonas ;) The rest is..oh, well, perfection doesn't exist !

  12. Well, i've upgraded tea and cookies to tea and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.... beats champagne any day :-p
I hope the boos are not for Nelsons or the chorus .. but i do think they are kind of misplaces , in any case. I don't see what about this production is offensive and to sit there where so many would dream to be and be as blaseee to boos THIS.. this divine music and very good singing... beggs the questions if these people deserve their seats... i find it offensive and ridiculous, the booing now and tonight.

  13. by the way i think the intervals are didiculously long!!! but i don't go to the opera to eat during intervals and drink for thirst, anything more needs time to enjoy and savour and should not be done in 30-40 min :-) I'd give enough time for a sip of water and some other needs, 25-30 min max! Gives you only time to move quick but not enough time for your brain to surface from the music :-) Thanks God Wagner was smart and there are hefty Vorspiels to draw you in again, however, not everyone is as good at that at Nelsons... tonight i just want to music to go ooooon and oooooon and onnnn!! not to listen to all kind of waffle in the interval. beh!

  14. I think booing is always offensive and leads to absolutely nothing. Probably they are booing the production but, anyway, when people does such a thing shows a lack of respect to everybody involved in the performance and that is not fair.
Fortunately, there are a lot more clapping and even bravos.

  15. Guess we will only know at the end.. but i don't like it.... i mean the music is sooo beautiful, take the last act and the silence at the end, absolutely enchanted!!! and then the boos... horrible...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes, the end of the last act has been magical !!
    But you know...God gives nuts .. ;)

  17. Ready to go! Ortrud & Fred...nicht to my taste. AD giving it some - JK & Konig / Herald / Chorus / AN & orch doing the biz! Just wish I could understand the interval interviews...

  18. good sum up :-))) Dasch interesting, she is saying it is nice to play somebody human, with weaknesses like Elsa :-) But it touches her and the music makes her cry :-) And it is a difficult balance. The rest nothing new and the waffle waffle about the music just ran away over my ears :-) music is all that matters :-)

Now the besssssst bits!! :-)))) I looveee this duet, my 2 favourite overall!

  19. by the way, this sounds like it comes from the same place as "our" Meister, doesn't it? :-)) Ah the wonders of chorus and orchestra!

  20. They're having a rerun in Munich today: Harteros, RDS, Meier, Koch, Grossbeck, Nagano. If I had to choose it'd be tough. Obviously more "excitement" this year at Bayreuth but the musical side (with the important exceptions of JK and AN) would really seem to be preferable in Munich (EH in big but not best voice today). Productions are iffy but at least the one in Munich gives Harteros the chance to look adorable in those braids. Ultimately it would probably depend on the relative merits of Dasch/RDS and he's been a pretty good Lohengrin in the past (keeping fingers crossed for her).

Anyway, with (Harteros) Elsa having woken and JK still having the Graselerzahlung the balance would seem to tip to Bayreuth for the 3rd Act. Let's just hope Dasch keeps up her end in the duet. Here he goes...

  21. I though Dasch did surprisingly well on the radio... hard to choose, i prefer Anja but i much more prefer Nelsons to Nagano ( the music in Munich for me lacked a lot of magic, which today i found aplenty) and can't even think of comparing the chorus :-) Nothing is perfect and actually, probably both are worth listening to :-)
