• The Emory Police Department (EPD) received a call from an Emory staff member on Nov. 9 who stated that there was a male subject walking through the Rollins School of Public Health building on the seventh floor. The subject was attempting to sell books, but he left before the officers arrived and could not be located. Information was turned over to an investigator. 

• On Nov. 8 at around 6 a.m., EPD found a female subject sleeping in a room in the Burlington Road Building. She claimed she was waiting to meet a graduate student there. This is the same woman who is thought to be homeless and has been spotted on campus on numerous occasions. Because of prior incidents, Emory Police officers issued her a permanent trespass, which she signed and said she understood. However, the next day she was found at the Goizueta Business School and was refusing to leave. She was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

• In Smith Hall on Nov. 8 around 1 a.m. EPD received a call from a Resident Advisor (RA), who said that there was a non-Emory student sleeping in the hall. The individual was a black male born in 1977 who claimed to be there to meet his girlfriend. According to the RA, individuals are not allowed to be in the residence hall without an Emory student. He cooperated and left the hall.

• In Dobbs Hall on Nov. 7 at around 10 p.m., there was criminal trespass and property damage on the first floor. The complaint came from a male Emory student who said he left his room at around 9 p.m. and when he returned his desk had been flipped over and his sheets ripped off. His printer and various other items were also damaged. However, he does not believe that any of his items were taken, and his roommate’s items were left undisturbed. The situation was handed over to an investigator.

Police Record: April 21, 2011

• Emory Police Department (EPD) received a report of criminal trespass at Trimble Hall on April 13 at approximately 7:30 a.m. The female student who made the call said that a male subject had entered her room at 6:30 a.m., climbed on her desk and urinated on it. When she saw the subject, she yelled at him to stop urinating and to leave her room. When he did not, she asked his roommate to assist him from her room. She informed officers that she preferred to sleep with her door unlocked, in case of a fire. She said she could not tell if the subject was intoxicated or sleepwalking. When officers spoke with friends of the subject, the friends said that they knew he had gone out that night, but they did not know what he had done. Campus Life Professionals were informed of the incident.

• EPD was notified by the DeKalb Police Department on April 14 at about 10:07 p.m. of a citation that the Dekalb Police officers had issued to a male Emory student. Officers gave the student the citation for operating a bicycle on the wrong side of the roadway. The student was operating his bicycle at the intersection of Lowergate Drive and Clifton Road.

• An EPD officer on patrol on April 14 at approximately 1:20 a.m. observed three individuals climbing a tree in the dark at Asbury Circle and taking photographs. The officer talked with the individuals, who identified themselves as Emory students and part of Students & Workers in Solidarity. They said they wanted to hang a banner in the tree as part of a rally against Sodexo. They informed the officer that they did not want to get permission from the administration because the administration “did not like them.” The officer verified that they were students and left the area without taking further action.

Police Record: March 25, 2011

  • Emory Police Department (EPD) received a report of a theft by taking that occurred between midnight on March 10 and midnight on Mar. 14. The theft consisted of a bicycle stolen from the bike rack in front of Harris Hall. The bicycle was a Cannondale model road bike and sea foam green in color. The owner of the bike had attached it to the rack with a chain, but when she discovered the theft, she found both the chain and bike lock missing as well. The stolen property is valued at approximately $350.
  • EPD responded to a call on March 19 at approximately 6 a.m. regarding an underage student down with alcohol intoxication. The subject was a white male resident of Few Residential Hall at 4 Eagle Row. He was highly inebriated and had urinated in the 2nd floor hallway of the dorm when officers arrived. Officers met with the Resident Advisor at the location and attempted to assist the individual involved. The subject had no response to questions from the officers and had no idea of his location. He was transported to Emory University Hospital.
  • On March 21, EPD officers on patrol at approximately 2 a.m. identified an animal in a car parked in front of the Complex Residential Halls. The officers were concerned about the animal because it did not appear that the owner was in the area, and there was no water in the car for the animal. EPD contacted the owner of the animal, who stated that his son had possession of the car. When the son arrived at the location, it was determined that he was not an Emory student. Officers checked his driver’s license for identification purposes and discovered an outstanding warrant for illegal use of credit cards from another county in Georgia. He was placed under arrest and transported to DeKalb County Jail.

Police Record: March 18, 2011

  • Emory Police Department (EPD) officers responded to an alarm that had been set off at Candler Mansion on Briarcliff Campus at March 4 at 1:27 a.m. The officers entered the building and announced their presence but received no response; upon further inspection, others found five students hiding in the building. The students stated that they had entered through a broken window and had come to the location with the intent to use the ouija board they had brought along. The officers cited the students with unauthorized entry into a vacated building.
  • EPD received a report of unauthorized entry into Harris Hall on March 4 at 11:18 p.m. The report came from a student who had ordered food from Hunan Dragon at 8 p.m. that evening. when the student found out that another Harris Hall resident had ordered at the same time but received her food instead, the first student asked the driver about her order, and the driver said that he would soon return with it The first student later went downstairs to wait for the driver to bring her order, but soon noticed him leaving the building empty-handed. when she asked the driver where her food was, he told her he had left it on her desk. Someone else had apparently held open the residence hall’s door for the driver, who had asked other students for directions to the student’s room, where he had knocked on the door and, upon receiving no reply, left the order on the student’s desk. The case has been turned over to EPD for additional investigation.

Police Report: Feburary 25, 2011

  • Emory Police Department (EPD) officers responded to a call about two missing Druid Hills High School students in Lullwater Park on Feb. 18 at 6:35 p.m. The mother of one of the two female students called EPD to report that she expected her daughter, who is on the track team, to be done running in the park at 6 p.m. The officers located the students and reunited them with the mother at 6:40 p.m.
  • EPD officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person in the Dobbs University Center (DUC) Down Under room on Feb. 19 at 7:33 p.m. The caller had described a female individual who was wearing all black, sitting on the couch in that room with many bags of belongings. The individual told the officers that she works part-time for Emory, but EPD could not confirm her employment. The officers asked her to leave the location until she had specific business on campus.
  • EPD arrested Jesse Holliday for criminal trespassing at the North Decatur Building on Feb. 19 at 7:59 p.m. Holliday had walked into the entrance of the building and stated that he was there to retrieve property. He was asked several times if he had called to make arrangements, but he did not respond. EPD had previously issued Holliday a criminal trespass warning on Jan. 28 and arrested him on Feb. 2 for returning to campus without specific business. On Feb. 19, once he was in custody of EPD, Holliday also damaged an EPD patrol car as a result of beating his head against the closed window.
  • EPD received a call about property damage in Lullwater Park on Feb. 20 at 4:02 p.m. The caller stated that she had observed the image of an eye and the words “eye see you” spray-painted on a bridge. She also stated that another eye had been spray-painted — in red — on a blue light call box in the park. More spray-painted images and phrases were found on a trash can near a different call box and on other surfaces leading through the park to Clairmont Campus.

Police Record: February 4, 2011

  • As they patrolled the Goizueta Business School on Jan. 28 at 4:08 p.m., Emory Police Department (EPD) officers stopped an individual that they believed had been sleeping in the building, based on descriptions of the subject in previous calls from witnesses. EPD issued the subject a trespass warning and asked him not to return to campus. He was allowed to leave the area that night.
  • EPD officers again found the individual who had received the trespass warning – a black male subject who is approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and 215 pounds – in Cannon Chapel on Feb. 3 at 11:16 p.m. The officers arrested the subject, who was charged with criminal trespassing and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
  • A student contacted EPD on Jan. 26 at 3:29 p.m. to report an online scam. She stated that she had found a job, via Craigslist, as a “personal assistant.” The “employer” sent her a check for a large sum of money, requesting that she first deposit it into her checking account and then send a money order to England from her account. She then received a second check and was asked to perform the same set of tasks. But when she tried to deposit the second check, her bank informed her that her account had been put on hold because the first check had bounced. This case is now under investigation.
  • An EPD officer responded to Glenn Memorial Church on Jan. 28 at 1:07 p.m. in response to a call about a suspicious person. According to the caller, a 64-year-old, white male subject had entered the building and then refused to leave when asked. The subject told the EPD officer that he was heading to his car, which was parked at Oxford Road and North Decatur Road, and that he was living at Atlanta Mission. The officer assisted him with locating his vehicle, and he departed campus without further incident.

Police Report: November 23, 2010

  • A student contacted the Emory Police Department (EPD) to report an incident that took place while she had been away from her Clairmont Residential Center apartment between Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. and Nov. 18 at 3 a.m. When she returned to her room, she found a stain with a urine-like odor on her bed. Her roommates stated that while the student had been absent, an ex-boyfriend of hers had visited the apartment and may have entered the student’s room.
  • EPD officers responded to a report that two students were on construction equipment near Turman Residential Center on Nov. 21 between midnight and 12:30 a.m. When the officers made contact with the two male students, one of them stated that the other had been injured. Emory Emergency Medical Services (EEMS) arrived at the location and determined that the injured student had cut his hand after breaking a window at Turman North. The incident was reported to the Division of Campus Life.
  • EPD officers responded to an incident of criminal trespass at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity house that occurred on Nov. 21 between midnight and 1 a.m. A member of the fraternity returned to his third-floor room and found a subject, who is not affiliated with the University, in the room and apparently rummaging through his belongings. The fraternity member and other SAE members present at the time stated that they believed two other subjects, who were seen leaving the house at approximately the same time, were also involved. These two other individuals were described as two black males. These individuals were believed to have left the location in a Honda CR-V that was dark in color. Items stolen from two third-floor rooms, where four SAE members reside, included two cameras, $40 in cash, about $200 worth of DVDs and a MacBook laptop valued at $1,200. The case is under ongoing investigation.

Police Record: October 1, 2010

• A 21-year-old student called EPD to report that his blue 2005 Toyota Tacoma truck had been vandalized on Sept. 23 between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. The student stated that someone had bent the rear license plate and frame, removed the radio antenna, left the gasoline tank open, spit on the driver’s-side window, drawn a picture of a penis on the driver’s-side door and written “f–k you” on the truck. There are no suspects at this time, and the case has been turned over to an investigator.

• EPD received a call about a person down on McDonough Field on Sept. 25 at 11:18 p.m. Officers found a 19-year-old female student at the location. Security staff had requested that the student leave the event taking place on the field. Emory Emergency Medical Services (EEMS) provided medical treatment to the student, who refused to be transported to the hospital. The student was transported to Woodruff Residential Center, where she was turned over to a resident adviser. The student was argumentative and stated that a first responder had taken her cell phone. The missing phone was valued at $100.

• A 23-year-old student called EPD to report that the tires of her car had been slashed near Clifton Tower sometime between Sept. 24 at 11:00 p.m. and Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. The student stated that she thought this incident might have been related to possible harassment that she had received from other students about her personal religious beliefs.

• EPD officers made contact with a 20-year-old male subject who was unaffiliated with the University near Harris Hall on Sept. 27 at 12:57 a.m. The subject, a resident of Jacksonville, Fla., stated that he was trying to see his girlfriend from home, who did not want to see him. The officers located the student who the subject identified as his girlfriend in her room in Harris Hall. The officers then decided to issue a criminal trespass against the male subject and escorted him off campus.

Police Record: September 28, 2010

Emory Clinic staff members called the Emory Police Department (EPD) to report a theft that occurred sometime between Sept. 17 at 4:00 p.m. and Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Staff members stated that the missing items were two steps that they had used to reach inside vapor phase nitrogen tanks in room 4326 and the fifth-floor hallway of the Clinic’s B-wing. Each step was valued at $200.

• An incident of criminal trespassing and property damage occurred at McTyeire Hall on Sept. 22 between 9:53 and 10:10 p.m. According to the call that EPD received, an unknown person had entered a room on the sixth floor and turned on a water faucet, which had flooded the room. The 19-year-old male resident of the room was on the sixth floor at the time. He stated that he had left the room’s door unlocked and did not know who might have turned on the faucet. His roommate was not in the hall at the time. Facilities Management removed the excess water from the room.

• A contract employee of the shuttle bus service called EPD on Sept. 23 at 5:50 p.m. to report a suspicious person riding the bus she was driving. The passenger, a 46-year-old black male, stated that he was an Emory Clinic patient, and it was later confirmed that he was on campus for a medical appointment. The driver stated that she felt uncomfortable with the subject on her bus and that, a few days earlier, he had made inappropriate comments to her while she was driving. The subject denied that such an incident had occurred but complied with EPD’s request that he refrain from riding buses driven by the employee who had complained.

• A resident adviser called EPD to report a theft by taking at Dobbs Hall on Sept. 23 at 2:30 a.m. The caller stated that he saw two white male subjects remove a banner that had been hanging on the front of the hall. The three-by-five-foot banner, valued at $200, displayed an image of Dooley and the words “Dooley Bol.”

Police Report: April 23, 2010

  • A bicycle was stolen on April 13 around 9 a.m. at the Clifton Tower. The Blue Silver Mongoose bicycle was attached by a chain lock to a rack underneath the building. The bike is valued at $300.
  • A student returned to the Starvine Parking deck at 11:20 a.m. on April 13 to find damage to their blue Chevy Impala. The damage came as a result of a criminal attempt to enter the vehicle.
  • An act of criminal trespassing occurred between April 13 at 7:45 p.m. and April 14 at 5:05 p.m. A 20-year-old Emory student stated that their 2007 black Infiniti had scratches on the front door. The car was parked in a space next to an elevator in a Clairmont Residential parking lot. The case was turned over to an investigator.
  • An iPhone and a black case were stolen on April 13 between 8:15 and 8:25 p.m. The victim, a 19-year-old Emory student, stated that he was playing basketball at the Woodruff P.E. Center basketball court. He placed his cell phone on the floor. When he returned, it was missing. The phone and case is valued at $220. There are no suspects.
  • A black male subject was spotted on April 14 at 2:55 p.m. at Cannon Chapel. The subject appeared to be homeless and looking for food.
  • A sheet with a painted Israeli flag was draped outside of the banquet area of the Dobbs University Center. Facilities Management noticed the flag at 7:51 a.m. on April 15. When they attempted to take it down, they were unable to do so as the people who put up the flag barricaded the door leading to the roof. The barricade, which prevented anyone from getting to the roof, caused an unestimated amount of damage to the door. The case was turned over to an investigator.
