Jan Ryan has 27 years in the field of prevention as an educator and consultant, providing direct service, implementing programs, writing grants, and training at local, state, national, and international levels.  She is known for helping schools, county and community-based organizations with customized, innovative and sustainable Student Assistance Program (SAP) designs that meet the mandates of available funding.  Her diverse career experiences have taught her the languages of many systems: schools, prevention providers, probation, mental health, and state/county services making cross system collaboration one of her strengths.  She participated on a statewide California Governor's Prevention Advisory Council (GPAC) Task Force on underage drinking and Student Assistance Programs, the Continuum of Services System Re-engineering Task Force, Phase II for the California Alcohol and Drug Programs and MHSA planning.  She translated Student Assistance Program successes into the Brief Risk Reduction Interview and Intervention Model (BRRIIM), which is a motivational interview that engages individuals/families who are at higher risk into creating their own prevention plan.  The BRRIIM implementation in Riverside County within the Individual Prevention Services was recently published in the peer reviewed UCLA "Journal for Psychoactive Drugs;" it is titled "Indicated Prevention: Bridging the Gap One Person at a Time."  As California nominee, it was one of two programs honored nationally to receive a National Exemplary Award from NASADAD in September 2012 at the National Prevention Network Conference in Pittsburg.  In May 2013 the BRRIIM implementation in Riverside County was named the Prevention Program of the year by the County Alcohol and Drug Program Administrations' Association of California (CADPAAC) comprised of the designated county alcohol and drug program administrators representing the 58 counties within California.
