It is a proven method that the installation of Vehicle Activated Speed Sign (VAS) and Speed Indication Signs (SIDs), are an effective tool to reduce traffic speeds, both on village entrances, school zones, community speedwatch areas, private and construction sites. From our VAS-300 range which is a traditional pole mounted range to our SDB-18 and SDT-VAS which are portable versions available for either purchase or hire. All versions are either mains or solar powered, Solar power can keep all units operational all year round. Data collection can be added to all models to covertly collect evidence of the fastest speeds, average speeds, worst offender and traffic flow.
Pole Mounted VAS-300
Pole Mounted VAS-300 – The VAS-300 is a cost-effective vehicle activated sign aimed at reducing vehicle speed and improving road safety. The VAS-300 vehicle activated sign simply bolts on to a lamppost and will monitor and display approaching traffic speeds up to 100m away. The high intensity double digit LED Display can measure and display the speed of the approaching vehicle whilst covertly recording the vehicle data. In depth statistics are captured from every passing vehicle, data such as traffic flow, average speeds and fastest drivers are all recorded including a time and date stamp. Data can be downloaded locally or remotely via 4G. The VAS-300 range of Speed Indicator Signs are powered either through mains or from a single solar panel which can keep the speed sign reliably operational all year round. SDB-18 Portable Vehicle Activated Sign
The SDB-18 is available for purchase or hire from Roadside Technologies. Commonly known as a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) or Speed Indication Sign (SID), our SDB-18 is designed with community speedwatch groups and private sites in mind. Encased within the frame work is a battery and solar panel capable of keeping the SDB-18 operational all year round without mains power. The SDB-18 stands approximately 5ft in height with a footprint of just 750mm x 500mm. If space is limited on site, the SDB-18 is a perfect choice for roadside monitoring with a compact footprint. The 12” high intensity LED Display can measure and display a vehicle speed at over 100 meters away. Should the approaching vehicle break the speed limit, a SLOW DOWN module will illuminate to remind the driver. Covertly all data is being collected and stored for download, from peak speeds, average speeds, traffic flow and worst offenders can be viewed all with time and date stamps. Once data has been recorded for a stretch of road, the evidence can be audited for review to see if further measures are required.

SDT-Solar Portable Vehicle Activated Sign
The SDT-Solar Vehicle Activated Sign is available to purchase or hire from Roadside Technologies. It is designed for use on highways schemes or where speed reminders are required on a higher eye level such as a quarry or sites with HGV’s operating. The SDT-Solar can operate continuously throughout most of the year on busy A Roads thanks to a battery bank stored on the trailer with the additional back up of solar panels. The SDT can detect and offer speed feedback to drivers in excess of 200ft away from the vehicle to assist with enforcing any site speed limit. Being mounted to a trailer, the SDT is light enough to be towed around and deployed by one person and can be operational within a few minutes of being driven in to position.
