For those who don’t know. Carla Hughes is on trial for murder of her boyfriends fiancee Avis Banks. She is charged with two murders as Avis Banks was 5 months pregnant. The jury was out just about 8 hours. She was found guilty of two counts of capital murder and now faces the death penalty. The penalty phase will begin on Wednesday. In Mississippi the jury has to vote unanimously for death not just a majority.
I didn’t think that there was enough evidence to convict her. Everything to me seemed circumstantial and could point to Hughes or Keyon Pittman
UPDATE: She was sentenced yesterday to life in prison.

Im glad she was found guilty, because i no she did it look what she have done 2 herself over a man that she let play with her, i no what im about 2 say is not right but if she wanted 2 kill anybody it should have been him not her. My heart truly goes out to the friends and family of Avis Banks. I can’t begin to imagine the pain her loved ones must be going through. It is truly a sad and devastating situation. However, there was not enough evidence to convict Carla Hughes. I didn’t study Law but it doesn’t take a genius to see and understand this. People are so caught up on the fact that she was in a relationship with this man who was engaged to the victim…so this had to make her the killer. WRONG! A suspect, no doubt but Keyon Pittman had a motive just as well. Here’s a man who continuously lies to those he claims to love, who manipulates women, and who tested positive for gun residue on his hands the night of the murder…need I say more. I’m no expert at guns but I know if there is gun residue on your hand, 10 times out of 10 you fired a gun not too long before that or you came in contact with a gun that had been fired. The “Burden of Proof” still lies on the Prosecution who did a horrible job. I’m not convinced and I understand it was up to the jurors, but I think we as human beings get so caught up with emotions when it comes situations like this that we just have to have someone to blame for it. Unfortunately it was Carla Hughes, and if she is the person that commited this God awful crime than the Lord will deal with her as he pleases. As for Mr. Pittman, God will have his way with him too. Lord have mercy on their souls.
It’s sad, a very sad situation. I am just hoping that this terrible situation will enlighten, and save other women caught up in relationships like the one Carla had with Pittman. Why is it that good, intelligent, women are the ones to get so caught with snakes like Pittman. I BELIEVE CARLA HUGHES STARTED OUT BEING A GOOD PERSON, BUT BECAUSE OF MATTERS OF THE HEART IN THIS AFFAIR , HER MIND BECAME VERY MESSED UP. I believe jealousy/hatred overcame Carla Hughes heart which is what usually happen in these cases.
I BELIEVE DEEP IN MY HEART SHE IS guilty……….. 99% for the fact iwhy in the world would your cousin testify, about the gun, and a knife,, when the murder was linked to both a gun and a knife,then the shoes with the blood, and the fact this girl could not not show evidence ofa shooting range… or evidence of having the knife… come on the girl couldn;t even testifyher own innocence, or plead for her own life… that little bit of evidence and cousin is what helped detrmine the situation. come on,,, anybody not guiltyof a crime would had went to any measure to prove their case,or give jury a reason to let them go… she did it,we know it, looks are so decitful, and she should have got the death penalty as well. im. sorry, i dont care how ,pretty, smart,or christian a erson is, you still have the will to commit a crime.. and for her to be stupid and sit backand take a crime in her own hands and have keyon, fram her for it , would be just ridiculous… wake up, she did it, and was sorry sh messed up her own life.. my sympathy is for avis banks, and herunborn child and family… justice was serve.. ma se rest in peace and carla hughes live a miserable life in her sail…..

I followed this case and believe Carla innocence. Pittman manipulated her and made up an alibi. Let’s not forget he couldn’t dial 911 because it’s long distance. Only God can judge remember that. And Carla looked the way she did because been in custody, detained almost three years stressed the hell out and want her freedom. God rest Avis and her child souls. But how come these women suffered and Pittman remarried probably still a dog? That is injustice!
That man was guilty of this woman’s murder. He wanted Carla Hughes, Avis stood in the way and with a baby on the way, that might keep him from being with Carla or any other woman. He got off scott free….the dog. He got rid of ALL his problems and is now living the good life with his new wifey. Good luck to her.
I don’t know why people are blaming Pittman? he is only guilty for being a dog!! Women need to start loving themselves and believing in themselves. That is the bottom line! Carla knew about Avis before she killed her!! She should have not got involved with Pittman from the get go!! Even if he told her to do it, she should have went to the police. She is where she belongs. At least her family can still see her and hear her voice. However, Avis’s family doesn’t get that privilage because Carla gave her and her baby the Death sentence for a crime she never committed!!! That’s what she should have got!!

I truly believe carla is guilty 1 her family seems very stand up why would the cousin lie 2 i feel she thought she would get away by staging a burglary similar 2 the alleged at her house all that crying was because she got caught not remorse
