Literacy Work Stations

Literacy Work Stations are a great way to practice the skills, concepts and new material learned in class! Each child completes 8 stations a week.  That means each child will do two stations a day. Each station last approximately 20 minutes each.I use Pat Pavelkas Guided Reading Management system.
Our Station Wheel

Spelling Station:
We use Words Their Way word sorts to find the patterns in our words. We also play spelling games such as hangman, BananaGrams and Boggle.
Word Sort
Grammar Station:
We complete Mad Libs, go on grammar searches, complete sorts, use grammar dice and much more!

Writing Station:
The Writing Station focus's on the Target Skills that we have learned in class.
Anthony using the creative writing dice.

Top 10 Station:
This station's topic changes every week to a Social Studies topic, Science topic or a topic of the kids choice. After the children create their Top 10 list, they complete an activity with their words.

Newspaper Station:
We use Newspaper Task Cards, respond to articles, buddy read and other fun activities.

Dictionary Station:
The children look up words that I display. The words go along with a topic we are studying in class. They must find the definition, pronunciation, part of speech, use it in a sentence and draw a picture of it!

Computer Station:
Activities on our blog! Most blog posts on this site are activities that we have done or will do at computer station!
Buddy Reading Station:
The children read in a "library voice" with a partner.

Handwriting Station:
Cursive handwriting practice!
Reading Response Station:
The children read a piece of literature such as an article or debate and must respond in writing.
Library Station:
Chose a book and read anywhere!
Research Station:
Read the non-fiction text and write down one connection, question or thing you learned to share with the class!
Reading Games:
Compression reading games that work on particular skills.

Occasionally I will add holiday related stations.
