This is the prototype all wood mill that we’ve been building. Previously it had a single row of inline wheels, and the flexco belt. That held up well for a couple of weeks but I wanted to try some of the newer parts that we got in. I switched out the roller bed for the 53mm wheels that I’ve been favoring, and finally cut the firehose and made a bellt out of that. Lastly, the slats are also different. They are 2inch wide slats made out of poplar wood. Poplar is no where near as sturdy as oak so I got them 3/4″. I’ve been running it with my dogs with good results and they’ve been holding up well. I do think that I could have got them a little slimmer, which would reduce the weight and maybe run a little smoother. The way it’s set up right now, I can get between 6 and 7 free spins (with the 7th spin always barely making it through). This is just a prototype though and I know I’m having a lot of issues with alignment, leveling, etc. It is what it is though and my dogs have been running it hard. The rubber lined firehose is ridiculously faster and extremely tougher than the flexco rubber, but it’s definitely louder. The firehose had two layers. One was the inner layer that was rubber-lined that held the water, plus it had a canvas outer layer. I made another belt with the outer layer that worked o.k. It wasn’t as fast, but was a little quieter.
I need to build a slat mill. I’ve injured a knee and can no longer run with my dog. I’m extremely handy. Can you supply me with plans/parts ?
hey i will like to know where did you get the main wheel set from or what kind of wheels are there. Please thank you
