Ballet Shrug

July 22, 2010

A gal at work mentioned that she’s been having trouble finding the perfect shrug and I said “I could probably knit you one.”  This was yesterday around 4pm.  Pattern scouring then ensued as I was hoping to find THE ONE that perfectly matched what she was wanting.  Before I even started I was about 98% sure I’d have to do some pattern modifications but what I didn’t expect to find was something quite so similar to what she wanted.  [SCORE!]

Here’s what I found (click picture for pattern):

What I love:

  • The neckline
  • The cap sleeves
  • The ballet sweater shape and ties

What I hate:

  • The shortness of it
  • The criss-cross-too-long ties
  • The yarn used

So, I’ve already decided my modifications and I’m about five inches into my ‘prototype’.  I have about 500 grams of the same yarn I used for the Lime Sorbet Cowoolah so I’m using that.  Below is my sketch of how I envision it looking. {WARNING: I never claimed to be an artist…}

The Plan:

  • Lengthen it to come down below the chest area further
  • Bring the ridiculous ties down to something manageable
  • Change the yarn

    This looks great – I’m going to give it a try.

    Thanks, Lynn
