William of the Welsh Regiment 15th Bn Ramsbottom was awarded the Military Medal on 7th Feb 1919 [Gazette supplement 11th Feb 1919.

Samuel was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on 19th Nov 1917 as explained in the Gazette of 5th Feb 1918:-

Samuel, the son of Edward and Eliza of St Helen’s LAN, joined the Royal Artillery in 1895 at 19 and served in Africa, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sierra Leone, Ireland and France.  Becoming a warrant officer he rose to BSM and, for reasons not known, was also awarded the Italian Della Guerra medal. On 11th Dec 1904 he married Ellen NOONAN in Co. Cork; their lives after he was discharged in 1918 have not been traced.

William H survived Gallipoli and Egypt. He is named on the Macclesfield Christ Church school panel; scroll down for his picture sent to me by Bernard, his grandson.

Frank, a teacher at Bunbury, volunteered in 1915 and was discharged on medical grounds in 1917.  He died in 1929 aged 41 before he could take up the headmaster’s post he had gained.

Fred, 7268, was an early victim.  On 11th November 1914 he was reported to be seriously ill in a Sheffield hospital.

Arthur E and Joseph’s names are on the plaque in the Knutsford Memorial House.
