About Us

What started as a few friends traveling the dirt roads of Texas in a Volkswagen Rabbit has become the source of local organic food for thousands of people in the Dallas metroplex.  At Urban Acres, our goal is to provide our community with the very best local and organic foods while supporting Texas farm families and artisans.   So, we created a “co-op style” produce system with pickup locations all over Dallas that makes shopping easy and trying new veggies fun.

All of us here at Urban Acres are really passionate about knowing where our food comes from, and we like taking care of the earth by getting food from around the corner and not a million miles away.  Since that first trip cruising Texas farm roads in the VW Rabbit, we’ve grown to thousands of members all over Dallas – people from all different backgrounds and walks of life who have something in common: the desire for fresh, organic, wholesome food that supports Texas agriculture.

We also operate our very own farm store in North Oak Cliff, just across the river from downtown Dallas.  Our farm store allows small farmers and local artisans to have a voice and share their gifts.  It’s also one of our co-op style produce pickup locations.

So that’s us…Urban Acres.  We love local.  We believe in organic.  And we are passionate about food!

We are committed to…

LOCAL

Connecting with Texas farmers and artisans whenever possible to carry the best quality local foods.  Supporting the community and neighborhoods where our store is located.

ORGANIC

Making sure all produce is always organic!  All meats and dairy we carry are from sustainable farms where the pastured animals are treated humanely.  We also insist upon the standards of no pesticides or hormones, non-genetically modified, no artificial flavoring, no hydrogenated oils, and no MSG.  That means the best-tasting food without all the junk.  REAL food!

SUSTAINABLE

Caring about the earth with which we’ve been entrusted.  This means recycling, using reclaimed wood to build counters and shelves in our stores, composting, encouraging community gardens and sustainable practices.  And of course, using as many local farms as possible so your food doesn’t have to travel a million miles!

“CO-OP STYLE”

Purchasing our produce cooperatively, meaning you commit to a share of fruits & vegetables that is chosen for you out of the bounty available at the time.  Our “farm stand” pickup locations throughout the city allow people from all different neighborhoods to be involved.  The best thing is that we shop for your produce for you!  All you have to do is pick it up.

SMALL

Keeping our stores small so we can keep the personal connection with our customers and the neighborhood market feel.  We want to know your name!
