Ubersleep

We are accustomed to between 6 and 8 hours of sleep at night, followed by 16 to 18 hours of being awake during the day.

But it ain’t necessarilly slow.

This ‘monophasic sleep cycle’ is dominant in English speaking countries. However, in Europe, South American, aged care facilities, preschools and Universities everywhere a ‘biphasic’ (or siesta’) sleep cycle is the norm,

Too much to do? Want to sleep less? Are you worried, like my friend Paul Carr, that sleep causes cancer?

Many people have experimented with multiphasic sleep cycles, and claim extraordinary energy and vitality after only a few hours of sleep spread out across the day.

Uberman

In the Uberman cycle, you have 20-30 minute naps every 4 hours. That makes 6 naps a day.

It gets a bit boring being awake all the time when everyone else is asleep.

Everyman

Less hard core is the Everyman cycle. One 3 hour nap and three 20-minute naps spread throughout the day. The advantage is that at least you get to spend some significant time in bed at the same time as your significant other.

Although this totals only 4 hours sleep perday, those who’ve tried it say that they have had amazingly positive results.

I’d like to learn more about this at the High Existence blog but I can’t keep my eyes open. See you in three hours.
