William F. Hubbard, Sr.

William F. Hubbard, Sr., 86, of Mattapoisett, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was the husband of Jeannette L. (Washburn) Hubbard.
Born in Mattapoisett, son of the late James E. Hubbard, Sr., and Jessie (Linhares) Hubbard, he lived in Mattapoisett all of his life.
Bill was the plant supervisor for 25 years at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, and previously worked as a supervisor at various construction companies. Bill was on the board of selectmen in Mattapoisett for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.
Survivors include his wife; his children, William Hubbard, Jr., and his wife LeeAnn Bartow of Lexington, Christine Hiller and her husband Jay of Marion, David Hubbard and his wife Lisa of Mattapoisett, and Ann Pasquill and her husband Richard of Mattapoisett; his brothers, Jimmy Hubbard, Carl Hubbard, and David Vieira; his sisters, Sharon Hubbard, and Caroline Hubbard; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Sadie. Bill would like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Christina Lopes, Deb Allaire, and Nick Decas for the support they provided him.
Bill is predeceased by his sister Donna Hubbard.
Bill's Funeral will be held Saturday, June 15th at 9 am from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Mattapoisett, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Anthony's Church, Mattapoisett and burial in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Vincent Ryan

Vinny, Dad, Grampy......Vincent Ryan, age 91, of Rochester passed away on Friday May 24, 2024 at Boston Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia E. Ryan and celebrated their 63rd anniversary earlier in May.
Vinny was born in New Bedford to Vincent C. and Grace (Neville) Ryan. He was an only child, growing up in New Bedford and graduating from Holy Family High School in 1950. He attended Georgetown University from 1950 to 1953 and served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. After his service, he worked as a phlebotomist at St. Luke's Hospital where he met and fell in love with Patricia. After several years in the lab at St. Luke's, he followed his father and took a job at New England Telephone where he worked for the next 32 years, retiring in 1990.
He was married to Patricia in 1961, living in Acushnet until they moved to Rochester in 1965. Vinny was very active in the local community, serving in the Lion's club for several years. He was one of the official starters at the annual Memorial Day boat race for many years. During the early 1970's, he became involved in the site search for what was to become Old Colony Regional Vocational High School. Once the site in Rochester was selected, he served on the building committee and when construction was complete, he served on the regional school committee continuously from its inception until he retired in his early 80's. He retired from the committee as its longest serving member and was honored by the school with a ceremony dedicating the school gymnasium as the Vincent Ryan Gymnasium. He touched countless lives during his tenure on the Old Colony school committee, handing diplomas to hundreds of graduates over the years.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Michael and his wife Christine of Rochester, Daughter Kimberly and her partner David Hirshlag of Rochester, and two grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Ryan. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
There will be a celebration of life in the coming weeks. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a generous donation to the Rochester Senior Center.

Robert E. Mitchell, 80, of Fairhaven passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in Westview on Main after a battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the husband of the late Brenda (Gagner) Mitchell.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Harold and Jeanie (Ciborowski) Mitchell he was a lifelong area resident.
Bob was a manager at Sears & Roebuck for many years and continued to be a manger in the retail business. Bob was also a part-time Marion police officer for thirteen years. He had a great sense of humor and in his spare time he enjoyed working around cars and woodworking.
He is survived by his children, Christopher Mitchell of Acushnet, Peter Mitchell and his wife Laura of Acushnet, and Amy DeSantos and her husband Ted of Manchester, CT; four grandchildren, Robert Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Ellie DeSantos, and Samuel DeSantos.

G. Richard Duffy Jr.

G. Richard Duffy Jr., known in the community as "Duff," passed away in his home on Sunday surrounded by friends and family at the age of 86. A fighter to the end, he eventually lost his battle with cancer, but he took it into double overtime of his own game seven.
Born in Medford, MA in 1937, he was the oldest son of the late G. Richard Duffy and the late Helen (Galvin) Duffy who he revered (but selectively listened to.) His Irish home was filled with extended family including five Galvin uncles and his Gram whom he adored.
He grew up in Cambridge, MA, Newport RI, and Fall River, MA. He dominated the playgrounds and the fields with an intensity that continued through an all-American high school career, three sport college years and continued into his coaching at Tabor Academy.
A proud patriot, he served his country from 1958 to 1963 as a U.S. Marine Veteran which was one of his greatest honors.
Dean, Teacher, House Parent, and Coach at Tabor Academy, "Coach Duffy" mentored thousands of students throughout his 48-year career, retiring in 2016. A Babson College graduate, and Tabor Academy Class of 1956, he returned to his beloved Tabor in 1969 where he taught History, introduced an Advanced Placement Economics course, as well as the popular elective America in Vietnam.
Coach Duffy served as head coach of varsity baseball for 33 years, as well the leader of the JV football team for 18 seasons. He was one of the first Dean of Students and for 18 years was the houseparent in West House. He has been Tabor's most ardent sports fan and one of the strongest supporters of Tabor's athletes.
Duff's impact on Tabor sports was recognized in 2011 with the naming of the school's athletic turf field complex in his honor. The G. Richard Duffy Athletic Fields are used today by Tabor students, as well as the Greater Tri-Town Communities. At the field's dedication, the students wore t-shirts with the quote "grass doesn't grow on the JV field" to recognize the tough practices he was known for. Former players referred to Duff's JV football practices as "varsity track."
For 25 years during the summers, Duff ran Silvershell Beach in Marion. He was a permanent fixture at the end of the jetty, orange swim trunks, whistle in hand, patrolling the swim lines no boats dared to cross.
Duff's impressive life-long collection of rare coins has been donated to Tabor to start a scholarship fund in his name.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett and known in his community for his quiet acts of generosity and kindness.
Surviving are his daughter Kate G. Duffy and her husband Jim Carlson of Edmond, Oklahoma, his sisters: Patricia van den Broek and her husband Albertus of Darien, CT and Paula Chase and her husband David of Denver, Colorado; 2 nephews Richard and Patrick van den Broek, niece Amy Semansky, their families as well as thousands of Tabor students over the last 50 years.

Robert M. Sherman, 87, of Rochester died peacefully May 7, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Harriett S. (Salley) Sherman, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Born in Rochester, son of the late Clifford L. and Margaret (Gifford) Sherman, he lived in Rochester all of his life.
Robert was the proud owner of R.M. Sherman Builder, having built countless custom homes in the tri-town.
He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, farming and spending countless hours on his father's cub tractor.
Survivors include his wife; his 5 children, Bryan Sherman and his wife Laurene, Diana Sherman-Knapp and her husband Wayne, Donna Ray and her husband Gene, Melanie Sherman-Morris and her husband Darren, all of Rochester and Brett Sherman of Mattapoisett and Florida; a sister, Jean Finnegan of Longmeadow, MA; 11 grandchildren, Meredith, Erin and her husband Rob, Clifford and his wife Alison, Wesley and his partner Nikki, Christopher, Benjamin, Andrea, Robert, Carrie and her husband Michael, Michael and his wife Paula and Madeline and her fiance Mark; 3 great-grandchildren, Gilbert John, Aubrey Anne and Logan James; and many nieces and nephews.

Rev. Lisabeth Brimm passed away peacefully at McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich, MA on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Liz was the devoted life partner of 31 years to Carol M. Wester of Mattapoisett, MA.
Liz was born in Shawnee, OK to Preston and Lou Brimm, and had two beloved brothers, Patrick, and Michael, all of whom pre-deceased her. She is also pre-deceased by her much beloved Service Dog, and loving canine companion of 12 years, Ava.
Liz was a scholar, an accomplished woman, a self-made person, and always saw the best in everyone, and in every situation.
She graduated from Colorado College, having attended on a full academic Boettcher scholarship, where she was very active in social and women's rights causes. She also graduated from Andover Newton Yale Theological School, and took great pride in this, fulfilling a life-long dream of serving God, and helping others to enjoy God's presence and blessings.
Liz also had long and distinguished careers in software and hardware computer sales for major national companies, insurance sales, and served as a financial advisor for Edward Jones. She was the Protestant Chaplain for the Wrentham Developmental Center for several years, and proudly served people with intellectual disabilities. She most recently served as a Pulpit Supply minister at many area churches, and temporary pastor at the West Congregational Church in Taunton, which she enjoyed tremendously. She was also an active member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, and North Congregational Church in Middleborough.
Liz leaves behind her beloved companion Carol, as well as many dear friends, including Rev. Dale Thackery of Marion, Rev. Aimee Dion of Pocasset, and Havens Levitt of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She also leaves her extended family members, Barbara and Douglas Bingham of Raynham, Janice Wester and Grace Trivers of Chelmsford, Andrew, Molly, and Colby Januse of Fall River, Martha Januse and Zelia Costa of Taunton, Treesie Allen of Dallas, Texas, Michael Martin and Amy Peterson of Fairhaven, and Grace Resendes of New Bedford.

Cornelia Harrop Middleton, June 19, 1962 - May 1, 2024
Nina was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Jane Shearer Harrop and William Henry Harrop III and grew up in Padanaram, MA. She attended grade school and early high school in Dartmouth, MA and spent the rest of her high school years at Suffield Academy in Connecticut. She earned her BA summa cum laude at Providence College and her Masters in Social Work from Rhode Island College. She was a crisis navigator in the emergency department of Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, MA the final ten years of her career. She lived her life to the fullest, including during her final four years with breast cancer.
Nina was an athlete - a runner, sailor, and excellent skier - who relished the outdoors. She was a champion of women's rights. Together with her husband John she raised their daughter Cency in their Mattapoisett home. Nina loved travelling and spending time at the family cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan.
In addition to John and Cency, Nina leaves behind her son-in-law Anders Fogel and grandson Magnus, her brother William Henry Harrop IV, his wife Cathy, her nephew Will, and nieces Jen and Delaney, as well as a wealth of wonderful friends. She leaves a hole in a lot of hearts, or better to say she finds a lasting place in them.

She was a crisis navigator in the emergency department of Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, MA the final ten years of her career. She lived her life to the fullest, including during her final four years with breast cancer.
Nina was an athlete - a runner, sailor, and excellent skier - who relished the outdoors. She was a champion of women's rights. Together with her husband John she raised their daughter Cency in their Mattapoisett home. Nina loved travelling and spending time at the family cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan.
In addition to John and Cency, Nina leaves behind her son-in-law Anders Fogel and grandson Magnus, her brother William Henry Harrop IV, his wife Cathy, her nephew Will, and nieces Jen and Delaney, as well as a wealth of wonderful friends. She leaves a hole in a lot of hearts, or better to say she finds a lasting place in them.

Donna L. Hubbard, 77, of Marion died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
She was raised in Mattapoisett and lived in town for most of her life.
Donna spent much of her time lovingly caring for her son, Paul, until his passing in 2009. She enjoyed having a good time with family and friends, shopping, and having her glass of sangria when she went out.
She is survived by loving family members and friends and was predeceased by her only child, Paul M. Hubbard.
Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.

William (Bill, Wild Bill) D. Titcomb

William (Bill, Wild Bill) D. Titcomb of Marion, MA, passed away at the age of 83 on April 30, 2024. William was born in Keene, NH, graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1958, and graduated from the New Bedford Institute of Technology in 1962. William served in the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Lieutenant, was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, and a proud member of the VFW, Post 2425. After serving his country, he became known as Mr. Titcomb (Mr. T) and was an elementary school teacher for the Town of Wareham for 37 years. In addition, he coached several sports at the high school level for both the boys and girls teams. Mr. Titcomb was the first coach ever of the Wareham hockey team and the Wareham tennis team. He also coached girls basketball, and girls soccer. Bill was also a local cable television celebrity. His channel 8 television shows included: The Knowledge Bowl, Let's Play Tennis, Let's Play Golf, Wild Bill's Woodworking, and Wild Bill's Wildflower Painting.
In his spare time, Wild Bill enjoyed playing tennis, golf, fishing, sailing, skiing, ice skating, playing hockey, painting, carpentry, eating breakfast with his high school buddies, and riding around in his pickup truck. He was a tennis champion at the Sippican Tennis Club (STC) in Men's Doubles, Men's Singles, and Mixed Doubles. He also ran Sunday Morning Men's Doubles at the STC for approximately 25 years. He was a member of Little Marion Golf Course for almost 4 decades and hit 6 Hole-in-Ones. He caught thousands of fish, and sailed the southwest winds in Buzzards Bay from May to October for 30 years. When the seasons changed, he would primarily transition to hockey. He played on Saturday mornings in Hockey Unlimited, and achieved one of his many goals in life by playing a shift at the age of 80 at the Gallo Ice Arena in Bourne, MA.
William was predeceased by his father Millard, his mother Carolyn, his Aunt Jane and her husband Donald Welch, and his cousins David and Kenny Welch. He is survived by his wife Sharon (Marion, MA), his brother Peter (Supply, NC), sister-in-law Nancy Surpenant (Little Compton, RI) and her husband Gerald, his two sons Timothy (Cary, NC) and his wife Nancy, Joshua (Cambridge, MA) and his wife Cathey, his 5 grandchildren: Anna, Jack, Rory, Axel, and Ellis. He is also survived by four nieces (Sarah, Kim, Julie, and Jessica), and nephew Little Pete. He is also remembered by his cousin David's partner Margo Melnicove of Wayland, MA.
In honor of Wild Bill's wishes, due to his zest for life, there will be no funeral services. Instead, the family will hold a Celebration of Life party in the summer of 2024, where there will be plenty of champagne and cheap beer to drink for all.

Richard R. Langhoff, 88, of Mattapoisett died April 25, 2024 unexpectedly at Tobey Hospital.
He was the husband of Ilona B. (Gorun) Langhoff.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Florence V. (Smiechowski) Krauterbluth, step-son of the late Paul J. Krauterbluth and son of the late Rudolph Langhoff, he lived briefly in Chula Vista, CA and Acushnet before moving to Mattapoisett in 1970.
He was a 1953 graduate of Langley High School in Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh, School of Engineering, class of 1964.
Mr. Langhoff was a Vietnam Era veteran, and trained primarily as a U.S. Air Force pilot through the Aviation Cadet program in class 58-C/D. He held a commercial pilot's license with an instrument rating at the time of his death. He was a very close friend and served in flight crew with the late David E. Frawley, Jr. of Mattapoisett.
He began his work career as a technician at Westinghouse Electric's Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory. At Bettis, he worked his way through college, but interrupted his education and joined the U.S. Air Force. Upon graduation with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering, he worked as a metallurgist for a number of companies in Pennsylvania, California, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He retired from Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems, Portsmouth, RI as a Principal Systems Engineer in 2002. He also was a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts. In retirement, he was a licensed school bus driver, and driver for the Mattapoisett Council on Aging.
Mr. Langhoff was a member of (ASM), and later the (ASMINT) at Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
He was an accomplished author of over 800 company proprietary technical reports, seven technical publications, and one U.S. Patent including two disclosures.
He was a former Vice-President, President of the St. Anthony's Church Couple's Club in Mattapoisett, and served as a Lector for 39 years and infrequent Usher since building the "New" St. Anthony's Church in 1974.
He was a Lifetime Volunteer Flight Crew member of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. Mattapoisett Machacam Club, and an over 35 year member of the American Legion, Florence Eastman Post 280 where he served as Chaplain.
He had an extreme love for sports cars with the owning of a prize winning 1958 Triumph TR3-A roadster.. He loved to exercise and was very active in bicycling until 2024 when his health declined. He had a lifelong passion for amateur astronomy and combined that passion with his interest in photography for the capture of many deep sky astrographs. He was the owner of an eight inch diameter Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at his passing. He also was a passionate football fan, and particularly enjoyed his beloved "Pittsburgh Steelers" and his alma mater "Pitt Panthers."
Survivors include his wife; a son, David Langhoff and his wife Trudy of Maynard, MA; a daughter, Kristen Henriques and her husband Scott of Fairhaven; a step-brother, Joel Langhoff of Lake Jackson, TX; a half-sister, Janet Hitz and her husband John of Graysville, PA; 4 grandchildren, Gretchen, Caleb, Ingrid and Katherine; 4 nieces and nephews, Bradley Langhoff, Robert Langhoff and Kendyl Warren; and Jonathan Hitz and his wife Caroline.
He was the brother of the late Ronnie Langhoff and the step-brother-in-law of the late Elaine Langhoff.
