Western Hound's Tongue

(Cynoglossum grande)

Western Hound's Tongue (Cynoglossum grande) is in the genus Cynoglossum of the family Boraginaceae.  Its common names are Western Hound's Tongue, Pacific Hound's Tongue and Borage.

Its name, hound's tongue, comes from the shape of its leaves.  The flowers, on a central stem, can be as tall as three feet, or one meter.

The root, when ground, has medicinal uses, by some, in treating burns, scalds, stomach aches and other conditions.  (Please read the page: Safety & Caution)

This wild flower was found behind the cabin in partial shade.  There are lots of these flowers in many areas.  They began flowering in April.

Note:  The photo identification is not confirmed.
