Note: The weight ratings listed below are based on comfort, not absolute tensile strength. So for instance the single layer is rated for a max of 250 lbs because users above that weight will experience more stretch than is ideal and so would be more comfortable in something with more support (like the Heavyweight double). The comfort ratings can be pushed somewhat but you will be trading in comfort in doing so.
Single Layer Blackbird:
Max comfort range: up to 250 lbs
Max load:Â 350 lbs
Hammock weight (without suspension):Â 15.75 oz.
Fabric: 40D Nylon
Lightweight Double Blackbird:
Max comfort range:Â up to 275 lbs
Max load: 350 lbs
Hammock weight (without suspension): 1lb. 5.75oz.
Fabric: 40d Nylon Outer, 15d Nylon Inner
Heavyweight Double Blackbird:
Max comfort range:Â up to 400 lbs
Max load:Â 400 lbs
Hammock weight (without suspension): 1lb. 11.75 oz.
Fabric: 40D Nylon (x2)
Listed weights include net top and stuffsac but not the suspension
You loosen the ridgeline by loosening the hammock suspension and you tighten the ridgeline by tightening the hammock suspension. The ridgeline should be neither super tight nor drooping, and this will be achieved when your suspension straps run at about a 30 deg angle. Tightening/loosening the suspension will also raise/lower the hammock, so you may need to raise/lower the straps on the tree trunk to dial in the final hammock height which should be about chair height.
This refers to the weight of the fabric only, the heavyweight fabric being a heavier, stronger, more durable fabric than the lightweight fabric. It does not refer to the weight or weight capacity of the camping hammock for sale. For instance a single layer 1.7 is made of the heavier more durable fabric, but since it is a single layer it is lighter than the lightweight double layer. So single layer vs. double layer has as much effect on hammock weight and weight capacity as fabric type does. All weight capacity and product weight info is listed in the collapsible product details boxes to the right of the product description.
For more information on which camping hammock for sale is right for you, see our hammocking 101 page.
Generally any standard-sized backpacking pad (20″ or 25″ width) will work on any of our camping hammocks for sale, regardless of thickness and length, but in general the largest commercial camping pad that will be appropriate will be the size of the Exped downmat 9 LW, which is aprox. 77″x25″x3.5″; Also keep in mind that in a hammock you need insulation only, no padding is needed so extra thick air mattresses are not necessary; R-value and warmth are what are really important. Also keep in mind that if you are considering buying a new pad to use with one of our end-gathered camping hammocks for sale (like the Blackbird or XLC), that an underquilt will be much more comfortable and a lot less hassle so you should seriously consider putting that money towards an underquilt instead.
We have several different hammock models each having different features, a breakdown of the differences can be found partway down our Hammock 101 page.
All of our hammocks come with the stuff sack included and your choice of suspension. Recommended items are listed on each hammock page.

Literally the most comfortable thing I’ve ever slept in.
I toss and turn in my bed but I just get into position in the WBBB and pass out.

Bravo, this wonderful thought will come in handy

As a packer of the Blackbird Hammock I always wondered how the warranty would be honored as mine was a gift from my dad. While I had hoped to never find out, I recently had an issue with the fabric and sent it in for repair.
After a diagnosis and some discussions around my use, they repaired my issue and I have my hammock back in time to sleep in again this Summer on my trip.
People don’t often write about warranty experiences being either happy or saddened at the outcome, but mine was positive and I wanted to share. Buy with confidence knowing they take care of their customers even if it was a gift.

Second purchase. Went from XLC to the Original BB, and they are both great. FYI I measure 5′9″ / 175cm weight around 154lb / 70kg and the Original BB fits just fine for me.

I’m sure this is a great hammock but I have had nothing but indue frustration with this product. I have learning disabilities and I have extreme curve learning new things and only learn in a specific manner. The gentleman in the instruction video talks so fast that I get nervous and so it goes in one ear and out the other. Not to mention everything’s constantly sold out. His videos made me feel stupid so I went to buy buckle suspension and its sold out. I understand the demand but I’m sick of excuses, and I’m sick of spending a fortune on products only for hassle.

I’ve avoided tent camping in the past because I wake up with a very tight back. Discovering hammock camping has been a game changer. I recently upgraded to a Blackbird and have been really impressed with how light, durable, and comfortable it is. Took the wbbb out in Yosemite and it make sleep a total pleasure – truly something I’d equate to being in a bed. I also appreciate the customer service (thank you Greg!) for working with me to ship different parts of my order to different addresses. Looking forward to my Wooki & will happily purchase from this company again.

First of all this is an excellent hammock. It is super soft, extremely light and comfortable. I love the shelf as well. The only thing I would change is how the guidelines attach to the bug net. The guidelines ripped one loop on each side my my bug net the third time camping with it. After contacting Warbonnet they offered to fix it for approximately $10 and cost of shipping. I decided to sew it myself and add a plastic clip to try and prevent this from happening again. It seems even with the bug net not being detachable that you could still have the guideline attached to the bug net with plastic clips similar to that used on the XLC to prevent the lines from basically cutting through the loop of the bug net.

Well, after owning this hammock for aboit half a year, figured it was time to leave a review. The Warbonnet Blackbird is neither black (at least mine wasn’t), not did it resemble a bird when I recieved it. (it still doesn’t) Nevertheless, this is still one exceptionally comfortable, and convenient hammock to have. It took a bit of a learning curve to get the right hang (I’m a novice), but Brandon’s videos were super helpful. After I got the hang of it (see what I did?), setting up was a breeze. I love this hammock so much that I actually preferred to use it over my own bed. The storage “shelf” is a convenient feature and it can store way more than you might think. Jusy don’t bog it down with too much stuff or else you might find it pounding away at the side of your skull in the middle of the night. (The shock cords can mitigate this to an extent.)
I was impressed at the customer service provided. I placed this order while I was moving from place to place, and kept sending the updated address to warbonnet. Fortunately they were patient enough with me and worked with me without complaint. I’ve become a pretty loyal warbonnet fan since then.

What can I say that hasn’t been said?
Phenomenal hammock, easy to set up, and the footbox feature is awesome. Calf ridge easily solved by tilting foot end up about 12 inches higher than head, and moving your whole body back so that your shoulder lines up with the WB logo on the netting. Also results in flattest lay possible. The textured nylon fabric he uses is extremely comfortable also. Gold standard In gathered end hammocks.

SWITCHED TO HAMMOCKS AND WENT WITH THE BEST!!!
53 years young but tent / ground sleeping has been getting harder on me so I switched to a hammock. The Warbonnet Original Blackbird saved me weight, bulk and is saving my hips! I feel refreshed in the mornings now, not all cramped and achy! I slept in one a friend let me try and ordered one for myself as soon as I got back into town!
Derek Jernigan –
I’ve had one of these for around 8 years. I’ve probably slept over a year in it (actually lived out of it for 4 months or so) Amazing, it sleeps as good as my bed. This is THE BEST hammock out there. It is MORE comfortable, EASIER to set up, LIGHTER, and MORE resilient than any I’ve dealt with. Mine hammock is still in 100% condition…and I use it, alot.
6’4 200lbs.
Ian Main –
I bought one of these probably 5 years back. I’ve spent at least a full year of nights (probably 400+) in this hammock and LOOVE it!!! (I went through a divorce and slept in this thing waaay too much :)). I would choose this equally with my bed or any other bed I’ve ever slept in.
Since this I’ve tried a few other hammocks but this one has the foot box sewn in which makes it super comfy.
I’ve always used a sleeping mat (blow up style) under myself and found it warm. Previously an exped down mat and now use a thermorest neolite xtherm. I get better sleeps – longer with less waking times – than in a bed.
I’m 6’1″ 220lb and bought the double blackbird. I’m now into ultralight backpacking (sub 10lb base pack weight) and am wanting the single blackbird!
Mike Gertz –
Five stars for the product and the service.
Bought this for my son to use on his SOBO through hike and he loves it. I accompanied him for the first 100 miles with my old-school Hennesy Asym hammock, and the difference between the two was night and day. The Blackbird was much roomier, which meant more comfortable at the end of the day. The footbox, for example, allowed him to stretch out fully without putting any pressure on his sore feet, unlike my Asym, which became very uncomfortable after a few days of hard hiking.
The Warbonnet service is also top notch. My son’s hammock (single layer, 1.1) developed a tear due to a manufacturing defect in the nylon. He was worried about delays (really hates sleeping in the shelters) but we got in touch with Warbonnet and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They called me back within the hour and were able to priority ship a replacement to him (1.7 this time) which was waiting for him in the next town.
Defects happen from time to time. That’s how it is in the real world. Responsiveness and quality service, on the other hand, are a lot harder to find. Warbonnet provides both, and I’ll be a customer for life.

It’s a great hammock, but it’s a bit disingenuous to call it bugproof. Sure, the netting works, but there’s no protection right underneath you so mosquitos will just poke right through when it’s stretched taut. All you’ll hear all night long is the steady whine of mosquitos right underneath you as they suck away at anything directly touching the fabric.
You need a bugnet envelope or a foam pad underneath to actually make it bugproof, so be aware of that before you take it on a trip.
Otherwise the shelf is a surprisingly pretty great feature and the foot box works quite well. The suspension could use some improvement with some of dutchware gear’s stuff, but otherwise it’s definitely a nice hammock, minus the abhorrent lack of bug protection.
admin (verified owner) –
I cannot tell from the comment if the customer is saying that they were actually bitten through the fabric or if they think they would have been had they not had a pad under them, but being bitten through the fabric is not a complaint we hear from our customers.
As far as having something under you (even if it’s just laying directly on your sleeping bag), you’ll need something between your skin and the hammock body if night time temps are below about 75 deg.

I’ve been sleeping in a Hennessy Hammock double layer Jungle Expedition for a while and decided to bite the bullet on the WBBB… a fantastic choice. The WBBB lays flat well and has a much better suspension system for my uses (I have the webbing and buckle suspension) that could very easily be changed to whoopie slings later if I preferred. I sleep almost as well as I do in my own bed! I am a side sleeper also and have no problems rolling over in the night. The double layer works well for holding my sleeping pad still through the night. And the shelf – it’s one of my favorite features. It holds my knife, a book and light throughout the night. It’s very convenient and ensures that you don’t have a bag hanging from the ridgeline that takes up space.
My only gripe isn’t really a gripe at all – I’m only 5’9″ but I do often wish that I bought the XLC. I just prefer a roomier hammock and don’t mind the extra weight/size. I’ll likely invest in the XLC in the near future, but for now the WBBB keeps me well rested.

I recently returned from hiking 1200(ish) miles on the Appalachian trail, and my BB held up beautifully through the abuse and terrible weather I put it through. Plus, it weathered the Tahoe Rim Trail with me, last year. Great product, well made, and incredibly comfortable!

I am a kayak guide on Lake Superior and I love this hammock! It fits great in the stern of my kayak and I can set it up in no time. Having the bug net sewn in is such a plus during some of the buggy summer months (very happy it is not a separate piece). I sleep so well in here it is unreal. I have been using mine for close to 4 years now and no sign of stopping. Every time a guest sees it they want to try it and they are instantly in love.

The hammock was damaged upon arrival but as a testament to their customer service it was super easy and fast to get it all fixed. The hammock itself is super comfortable and easy to setup. I also opted for the whoopie slings and I am amazed it holds me up and most my gear off the ground without budging. (300+ lbs). Yet another great review. This will be my main setup for my Appalachian trail thru hike and im sure i will be happy sleeping in it every night. Thank you guys for an awesome hammock and great customer service!

Just ordered my 3rd complete BB/tarp set up and it arrived in a record breaking 3 days! I order these as graduation gifts – not from high school – from 1st grade! Once one of my grands graduates 1st grade, I purchase their WB setup to start their adventures (and training) in the backwoods. Every grandchild is buzzing about their future WB setup by the age of 3. I have my criteria set (behavior/grades etc) and they work diligently to earn their WB. Some people say I spoil my grands, but they’ll tell you upfront I make them earn their gear and trips, carry their gear, and help with the preparations and maintenance. All gear stays at my house, and they’ll get to take it home the day they graduate from high school. BTW, we are going to visit relatives in a few weeks who don’t have enough room to board everyone. Being the older female, they of course offered me first dibs in the house. “Nah,” I said. “You got trees? Great! Then I’ll bring my hammock. I’ll be fine!” Life is grand in the woods when you are sleeping in WB gear. I wouldn’t trust my grands to nothing but the best! “Nuff said!

The first time a spent the night in any hammock was in the Warbonnet Blackbird that my friend WESLEY BANGS loaned me on an overnight backpacking trip. I dare say I have never slept better in the woods. I am a side and back sleeper and was able to turn with ease, never feeling unstable. And it’s so roomy! I always thought sleeping in a hammock would be like being in a cocoon, but not so in the Blackbird. I never felt confined. My only regret is that I didn’t go to bed earlier!
The storage shelf is perfect for keeping your essentials organized and available through the night. And the footbox is great. I never felt restricted when I stretched out.
I went in a bit of a skeptic, but am amazed at how incredibly comfortable the Blackbird is.

We use to hang in Hennessey hammock until Shug showed the blackbird. I got one and loved it, then my wife got in it and I had her one . Going to get the xlc next. These are the best hammocks on the market bar none.

A little gem this Hamack! It’s worth the cost (customs clearance, exchange rate, transport) to use all year round in the north of the USA! Whooooooooooo One-Piece

The Warbonnet Blackbird is a great choice for new hammockers. Setting it up with straps is very simple and straight forward. The storage shelf and footbox are two unique features I can’t live without. The footbox assures me of a good night sleep and the storage shelf is like having a nightstand. The weight penalty of these great features is negligible which makes the Blackbird the perfect hammock for me.
Michael Haire, Jr –
I bought my Warbonnet Blackbird about 6 years ago. I have used it almost exclusively since. Try all the competitors like I did. This is simply the best option. With the Warbonnet Blackbird you have an ultra-light sleep system at 1/3 of the similarly weighing tent setup. (1/4 if you want to go all cuben fiber.)
There is a lot of information out there about winter camping in these, which is fine and functional (I use the 3/4 down underquilt by Warbonnet). However, where this thing really shines is summer heat camping. The convection off of the bottom will let you sleep *cool* well into the upper 80s at night. There was a time when a lot of BSA troops used hammocks in the southeast due to the heat, snakes and bugs. For some reason it fell out of favor in the 70s. I don’t know why anybody sleeps in a tent south of the Mason-Dixon between May and October. Now maybe you’re sceptical. So, should you want to “get your mind right” in the Cool Hand Luke sense, just set up that double-walled tent of yours and spend your first “night in the box” when you are at your next scout camp anywhere in the southeast. Then, on the second night, try the Blackbird.

I love the Blackbird. Comfortable and easy to setup. Bug net is a huge plus. I couldn’t be happier with my hammock. Looking to get an under quilt for the fall and spring. Keep up the good work.

I got the Blackbird Single Layer 1.1 with webbing buckles and it is perfect for me. I’m 120lbs and the weight limit is 200, so I can’t really have another person in it with me which would be fun, but this is just what I need. I’m planning on relaxing in it this year (during rains, using the Edge tarp I also bought) and then taking it on the Long Trail in Vermont next year… very excited! I hope it serves me well.
Delivery was WAY faster than I thought (i bought a blem hammock). Refund took a couple days, but that was just fine :).
Setup with the webbing is so easy on trees and I feel very secure. I haven’t tried attaching it to columns or any other structures as some people have been known to do with enos.. I’ll stay in the trees.
This is a very comfortable hammock, although it is very expensive.

What can I say? I’m blown away.
I’m thru hiking the AT next year and I decided to various reasons that I wanted to try doing so with a hammock rather than a tent. Once I made the decision, I did my research and found a lot of thru hikers recommending the Blackbird. I was two weeks out from a music festival and decided to order it and test it out there. I was a little worried about how fast it would arrive, but Ryan M in customer service put my fears to rest and was extremely helpful and kind.
Okay, so this thing is amazing. The weekend alternated between blisteringly hot and pouring heavy rain with epic lightning storms. Although I hardly know what I am doing with hamocks, I rigged it up with the mamajamba tarp and gave it a test lay. Very comfortable. Maybe even more so than my bed, and certainly much comfier than laying down on rocky ground inside a tent.
Not long after we arrived and set up camp, we were slammed with a massive storm. We huddled under an easy up waiting for it to pass, and I kept nervously glancing at the hammock and wondering if it was soaked. Once the rain passed, I was pleasantly surprised to find the hammock bone dry. I left it up all weekend. About 6 large storms hit between Thursday and Sunday morning and there was only one instance where a tiny pool of water accumulated inside. I poured it out. The water slicked right off the nylon, and I was able to wipe it completely dry with the bottom of my shirt.
I suffered no bug bites thanks to the bug net. While everyone got between 3-5 hours of sleep per night, I slept in and got 7-8 every night. The tarp kept me dry and shaded, while the hammock itself was well ventilated and allowed me to sleep without waking up from heatstroke. The shelf allowed me to find my belongings quickly and easily, and the footbox is clutch for sleeping more level. It was like being swaddled.
I can’t see for the life of me why anyone camping alone would opt for a tent over a hammock like this. It’s a slam dunk piece of a gear and I can’t wait to sleep in it every night on the AT next year. Additionally, I found the price to right on. I didn’t need to use my thermarest because it wasn’t cold enough, but the double layer bottom looks like it will work just fine.
Thank you Warbonnet!

Having just spent 6 weeks hiking the AT and sleeping in my Blackbird 1.7, I’m beyond happy with the performance and comfort of the hammock. My sleep quality was excellent. Elevating my legs to the degree of my choosing at the end of each day was outright therapeutic.
The quality is amazing, I had zero problems with the zipper, tie-outs, or body of the hammock. Frequently surrounded by insects, I had not one bite even though the hammock was untreated with insecticide.

I have had a Blackbird for about a year and I have used it almost every weekend for three-season use. (Yet it still looks like new!) It is by far the most comfortable hammock I have ever used and the features are just right without being overkill. Once I woke up from a dream that I was in my own bed at home on my 4″ memory foam mattress topper…yes, it is that comfortable!
Josh C. –
Absolutely love the Blackbird! Got my in today and headed straight to the woods to try it out. The hype is real! By far the most comfortable hammock I’ve ever been in. The quality is top notch as well as the level of comfort. Impressed … really impressed!
John Pieper –
When I got to about forty I lost the ability to sleep flat on the ground, no matter what mattress. I tried a cheap mosquito proof hammock, and never looked back. After a couple of years, I decided to get serious and invest in a good hammock. My choice was the Blackbird. I’ve never had a bad trip. I carry a full underquilt. I added small ribbons to tie it on, with that done it’s comfortable down to zero Fahrenheit. I love the gear shelf. I never stand out the sides any more. In winter I use a large tarp I bought with the hammock, so I can get it down to the ground to block the wind. In summer I use a smaller tarp, pitched high.
I bought the two layer model which has served me well, but I stopped using a mat so my next one will be a single layer. I own a set of whoopie slings but I love the simple set up of the adjustable straps so much I gave them to my son.
This is the one piece of gear guaranteed to come on any overnight trip. Once, at minus fifteen, I agreed to sleep indoors, but only when I realized I could hang my Blackbird from the bunk beds. 🙂
Jeffrey Wong –
I’ve camped in a hammock now for two years. I used a double layer 1.1 Blackbird for twelve hundred miles last year (2015) along the Pacific Crest Trail along with the full length underquilt and a Superfly tarp. I was always comfortable and felt protected from the elements. I hung my backpack and my food from the hammock suspension–everything else hung from the ridgeline over the hammock itself; only my shoes and trekking poles were on the ground. I used the gear shelf for all those things that you might need at 1 a.m. or first thing in the morning. Three people told me a mouse chewed holes in their tents looking for food–none ever touched my food.
I was forced to camp recently on an 2.5″ air mattress–I didn’t have one restful night such as I consistently have in the Blackbird. I tossed and turned on the air mattress and never got comfortable. In the Blackbird, I sleep on my back and wake up fully rested with no memory of ever having moved during the night. I don’t need a pillow in the Blackbird.
A product well done.

Great piece of gear and I daresay money well spent! Delivery was faster than expected and quality appears to be top-notch! I converted to hammock camping in my older age because of back issues and that is how I came in to possession of the WBBB. If I had one of these earlier, I would have enjoyed years of better sleep on the trail that the Warbonnet Blackbird affords!
Seth –
This hammock is incredibly comfortable! The footbox really does make a huge difference. I have always been a “ground dweller” using an open-cell pad. I dreaded going to sleep and having to constantly change positions. I love the outdoors but not getting a good nights rest can really hinder a trip. I hung this in my room as soon as I got it to test it out before I take it out into the wild and I have spent a couple of nights in it. I think that I actually prefer sleeping in this over my tempur-pedic! There are so many different sleeping positions that you can use and if you use a topquilt it is so much less constricting than sleeping on the ground. I simply love this thing and find myself taking naps and watching TV in it just so that I can use it more!
Brandon does great work and got me my hammock quickly for a campout I have coming up. Thanks Brandon!!

I have heard people talk about this hammock and design for years and every bit of it is true and more. Love this hammock for its design and thought for utility … like the foot box and shelf. Small things make a big difference .. both are great.

I could not be happier with my BB. As expected, after reading the many reviews of Warbonnet products I finally received the BB. Every stitch and seam were perfect. The lay in the hammock was almost perfectly flat. The legend continues…
Michael –
I just received the War Bonnet Blackbird hammock less than a week ago, but have already trail tested it on an overnight stay on Peekamoose Mountain in the Catskill Mountains of NY. I very rarely give a product 5 stars as there is always something that I don’t like about things. But honestly, there was nothing wrong with the hammock that I can think of at all. It’s lightweight, super easy to setup with the buckling straps (I don’t have the whoopie slings), incredibly comfortable (as in I won’t tent camp again), and I’m a big guy (over 280 lbs) but had plenty of room and didn’t feel confined at all. So far, after a single night’s use, it seems to be constructed well with no visible flaws. The little shelf is a nice touch as well.
The only negative…which is not a problem with the product really…is that in the high winds of the mountain, the hammock swayed and woke me up. Again, that will happen with any similar product.
The only area that I think Warbonnet can improve is in their customer service. The website said deliver was 2 weeks out. I sent a message with my order to ask for more specific timeframe. The response, which came a week after the order, was about 2 lines that said the hammock was 3 weeks out. It wasn’t clear if that was 3 weeks from the order or 3 weeks from their response (i.e. 4 weeks total). The communication was very disappointing and I was honestly about to cancel the order based on that. I am glad I did not. The hammock came after about 2.5 weeks from the original order. Since it seems to be a good product, I am letting the lack of communication slide. Had it had problems, I would have had a much different review.
El Tigre –
Best hammock I’ve ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. Built in bug net, simple to put a tarp over, even simpler to set up, (especially with the whoopies) and the regular size is big enough for a 6′ person to snuggle with a lady friend. What more can I say.

I wanted a hammock to bring out on the fireline for overnighters and did some research and decided that a little extra money was worth the features and quality of this hammock. I was right. I originally bought the 1.7 double layer and i’m super happy with the quality and ease of set up. Shortly after, I decided I needed a second hammock to always have in my fire pack. It’s a single layer 1.7 and I’m just as satisfied as my first purchase. I also love that you cannot find this company’s products in stores, you know you are getting high quality hand made/inspected products. Have nothing negative to say about Warbonnet and it’s products! Thanks!

Love it. Can’t stop bragging about it and for those who don’t hammock tent, they don’t seem to understand. Love the foot box and the storage area for small items. Think I am converted and I am very unlikely to go back to a tent. Sooo comfortable. Two thumbs up. The pad holder is a definite bonus too, no more schooching around trying to get it from sliding out from underneath me. Highly recommend this product.

I leave next week Wednesday for a week long trip and my blackbird will be coming with me. I have hung this a number of times in the backyard and am amazed by how well made it is. The webbing suspension is super easy to hang and then adjust. Well worth the wait to get it. I unfortunately haven’t had a chance to spend the night in it but imagine that I will sleep like a baby in it. I had my girlfriend sit in this the other day and she in now going to order one for herself. Bottom line so far this is an awesome product and I would not hesitate to recommend this hammock to everyone!!!

This is the best hammock I have ever used.
Easy to setup and super comfy.
Thank you.

I now own three of these.
I had to give my first one to my son, I ordered another one, and now my youngest son got his. We love them – we do a lot of hiking and camping, never worry about flat ground again, in cooler weather a thermorest works in between the layers. I am 6 foot – 260 lbs and it is perfect. We use them in spring, summer, fall camping. Love the foot box and the shelf. This is the best sleep system I have found, other guys I go with try and tell me how they build their own… I hang mine and they all want to use it. It is worth every dime, the design has thought of everything. Great job…
Happy camping!

6’3″ and it fits like a glove. Sets up quickly with very little practice. The double wall bottom is great for your thremorest style mattress for added warmth.

It really is an out of the box design when it come to hammocks that results in a superior lay. The shelf it a great design that removes the need for a ridge line organizer and can hold much more gear. The pull out for the net make the interior feel much more roomy. I bought the double layer version and it holds a pad well. If you trim your pad a bit to conform to the lay in the hammock you will find that pad stays where you put it and gives great coverage. To top it all off the quality of the workmanship is well beyond what one expect in this price range. I have only spent a few nights out in it but, it is better thantany other hammock rig I have used in the past. I expect that I will be using for years to come. There is a wait and they are not the cheapest but, definitely the best hammock I have found yet.

The Blackbird is my first hammock. I had done lots of research of the different hammocks and brands, and decided the real innovation is in the “boutique” or small craft business hammock makers, not found at Dick’s or REI. I finally settled on the Blackbird because of the asymmetrical cut and integrated but netting, in addition to the glowing reviews on YouTube, such as Shug Emery’s review.
I weigh 225, so I decided not to chance it, and got the double layer 1.1 option. It was perfect, and I have never slept better after a day’s hiking. I always used to hate morning sleeping on the ground– never feeling refreshed, sore hips or shoulders, having to crawl around in the tent, etc. Not anymore. After the first night in the Blackbird, I was refreshed, not sore, and ready for another long day in the trail. And don’t get me started about laying, swinging, and watching the stars!
The footbox in the Blackbird was roomy. Honestly, I didn’t really need it: I alternated between feet-to-the-right diagonal lay (where the footbox was) and feet-to-the-left, and found both to be equally comfortable.
But the killer feature for me was the storage shelf. I put EVERYTHING in it: phone/camera, lots of clothes layers, you name it. It was so handy having medicine kit handy when my throat got sore due to the dry air in the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area. I just reached in and found my lozenges, no need to get up, dig through my bag, or even turn on my headlamp. I wouldn’t want to hang without that shelf!

We just took our hammocks out for the first time last night, and they certainly lived up to everyone’s reviews. The shelves are awesome, great for putting middle of the night emergency things there, and the foot box made it so comfortable, was better than my bed at home. There were extremely easy to put up, and the mosquito net isn’t right on top of you like other brands, in fact I had enough room to basically sit up!! We will totally recommends these to everyone we know 🙂

Heavy duty product from the kind of companies that should be supported by whatever industry they are involved in.

Just like the headline says better to sleep in than my high end home bed. Also the construction and materials are absolutely top notch. Thanks for king such a great product and keeping the manufacturing in north American.

I just used my Blackbird for the first time on an overnight on the Ozark Trail in the POURING rain and cold. Along with my Warbonnet top quilt and tarp I was toasty and dry as a bone. It was my best night’s sleep in the backcountry ever.
I bought the double layer 1.7 because I am 250+ lbs but would have done fine with the double layer 1.1 and saved a little weight. The Whoopies are great and worth the small extra cost. I also switched out the suspension system for all Spectra line and slings. I picked up some 7/64″ Amsteel Blue from my local marine store and made some soft shackles along with two 6 ft extenders (eye spliced on each end). After a little work I have the perfect set-up.

The WBB seems to receive endless praise, and now that I actually own one, I know why. I just had two of the best nights’ sleep while camping as I’ve had in a long, long time. Setup and take-down is ridiculously simple and the extra features like the foot box & storage shelf absolutely won me over. I wish I had switched from tent camping sooner!

I purchased this hammock for backpacking purposes for a few days at a time. I am also changing from tent camping to hammock camping. I have never used a hammock and I have also never tied a single knot in my life other than to tie my shoes.
I had this hammock set up with a tarp and all of the guy lines within 5 minutes using the video in the video section of this website.
The customer service was unbeatable. I emailed warbonnet with a ton of questions and they responded to each question and addressed them fully. The learn and faq’s section was also quite helpful.
Next comes comfort. The hammock is easy to set up and I slept like a baby. During the middle of the night I easily slid my air mattress between the dual layers and instantly fell right back asleep. Even with the air mattress it was extremely comfortable. You can’t beat the built in bug netting, very nice to not have an extra item to set up. I’m looking forward to trying everything out in the rain or in the winter. I will do my best to leave another review after some other than fair weather camping.
Teardown was as easy as it gets. With the knots that were shown in the video section I was able to easily break camp and have everything packed up within about 10 minutes. This will be much easier than tent camping and much more comfortable.
Thank you warbonnet for offering such a wonderful product.

This is without a doubt, the most comfortable I have ever been outdoors. Tons of room, love the shelf and the footbox. I use the cinch straps and it takes me about 1 minute to set up. Shipping was very fast. I was expecting it to take a few weeks…I got it in 4 days. Now I am a snob. I feel like I finally bought the best of something to use on the trail, and I can look down on the other hangers.
Ryan –
I don’t have any basis for comparison as this is my first hammock to own, but I can say I am more than satisfied with the quality of the work put in to making this hammock. Every stitch and thread is in place! Super easy setup with the whoopie slings, comfortable, lightweight, convenient built-in features with the side pull-outs, bug net, storage shelf…everything is fantastic!
Hart Matthews –
… And very good service from the company. Good work, Warbonnet!

After using a friends Blackbird a few weeks ago I immediately ordered one as soon as I got home. I never thought my sleeping setup would ever change so drastically, tents will be left home unless I’m forced. Quickly arriving only about 3 days after I ordered it I wasn’t able to use it until this past week but boyyyyy was it a niiice 3 nights I spent as comfortable as a cushion.
Unlike my friend that had an under quilt, it was a bit chilly underneath me in 30F, I came prepared with a pad so it wasn’t a problem but when my Yeti comes in this will be the ultimate year round sleeping set.
This hammock is well thoughtout and clearly made to be the most comfortable as possible. The foot box, storage space, ease of set up and strong fabric are what makes this hammock stand out from the other ones. I opted for the nylon straps instead of the whoopie slings and with two carabiners I have my hammock up in 30 seconds and my tarp overhead exactly how I want it within another 5 mins.
Outstanding hammock and service!
Jason –
What can’t I say. Hands down the best lay I’ve had in a hammock. The exaggerated foot box, to me, is what really sets this hammock apart. It’s a world changer for a comfortable sleep!!!
Ed Hodgens –
This is our first experience hammock camping and we are totally impressed with both the comfort and quality of our Blackbird hammocks. My wife has absolutely no back issues (as compared to other camping or even our regular mattress). We enjoy the Blackbird so much that we have even installed setups on our backyard deck so we can sleep outside whenever we desire – we never did that with our tents and pads. So far we have used them exclusively for kayak camping along the rivers here in Florida but look forward to hiking within the South. Thanks for such a great and enjoyable product………

Very satisfied with the hammock, built quality and service. Thank you!

I am a very experienced camper but rather new to hammock camping. I absolutely love my Blackbird 1.1 double layer. I’m at that, uhh, age where my back and hips and joints that I didn’t even know that I had get stiff and sore at night, especially when sleeping on the ground on my insulated pad. Not so in my Blackbird. I actually sleep as well as I do at home. I was concerned about cold weather camping, as in sub freezing weather. No problem – with my down underquilt, I am as warm and toasty as in my own bed at home. The best part is, I don’t have to find a level spot free of brush and briars for my sleeping pad. All I need are two trees. The Footbox and “shelf” are awesome.

This is my second Warbonnet Outdoors hammock, the first was handed down to my son. I originally purchased the Blackbird 1.1 double (original Version), but when Brandon came out with the new version, I figured I would get the newer hammock, in the single layer as I figured out that an underquilt ( Warbonnet Yeti) is the only way to go when keeping with comfort ability. I have yet to experience any drawbacks, and spend approximatly two days a week in my hammock sleeping along side the lake. I have slept in this hammock down to 5 degrees or so with Confort, again, thanks to a wonderful UQ. If you’re looking for a great hammock with great customer service, look no further.
If shipping apears to be to long of a wait, this too was not a problem, as Brandon shipped in less than a week. Thank you Warbonnet Outdoors.

I just got my Warbonnet Blackbird. So far I’ve only hung around in the backyard but I’m pretty convinced I could live in here. I’m writing this review laying in it! Also, it is roomy enough for my 9 year old to get in with me. It wouldn’t be ideal for any long term sleeping but it is perfect for hang time with the kids. I’d love to see a kids version offered. I’d snap one or two up quickly.

I am used to camping in a tent and the blackbird is unbelievable. I don’t know if I will go back to the tent. This hammock is extremely comfortable and roomy. The shelf is a genius idea and now I don’t have to worry about rolling over on to my camera. I would recommend the blackbird to anyone who is looking for a hammock for a replacement or a first timer. It also makes an awesome seat if you need to sit and eat or just shoot the breeze with a buddy on the trail.
Kasey –
Just received my Blackbird hammock and I haven’t had the chance to do any serious hanging in it yet. However just from hanging in my yard with it I am in love. Super easy setup and takedown. Very comfortable and superb craftsmanship. I can’t wait to take it out for a weekend camping trip!

Wow. This is an amazing hammock. It beats the crap outta my hennessy and eno. I would definitely recommend this hammock to anybody. I have the updated version, with more mesh netting and such. What a great update. Thanks warbonnet!

I was all set to purchase a tarp tent, until I saw many post and journal entries talking about getting of the ground especially at my age. So I aprehensively started researching hammocks. Almost instantly I reviewed the ultra lite weight options but after realizing a net needs to be carried whether as part of the hammock or seperate, the weight issue became less important. Reading all the positive responses on the footbox, storage pouch, and confort of the set-up, I was pulled to the WBBB. I emailed and asked questions, driving Brandon crazy I am sure. His responses where quick and effectively answered my questions, even though I was not close to making my mind up. I then watched all the great videos on the site. Seeing the ease and all the features, supported by WBBB owers, I finally decided some weight was a trade off for ease and comfort. I am not disappointed. The Bishop Bag is awesome, as is the Hammock itself. Ordering online was awesome and the updates from the company showed the companies concern for it’s customers. I felt bad when I had to purchase Ti Dutch Clips from that company but understand this is out of WB control. Awesome product, company and experience. I look forward to years of hanging in the future.

What hasn’t been said about this gem of a hammock!! All the amenities one really needs in a quality hang! Built to like a rock that will cradle you to sleep on every hang!!! Best hammock on the market!!

I own a Blackbird XLC and bought this one for my girlfriend instead of the Hennessy we were originally looking at. She absolutely loves it and just as my XLC it was a perfect work of art. I will continue to buy from Brandon as long as he is around.

This hammock is lightweight enough that I do not notice the weight added to my pack. It is easy to hang and the webbing is easy to adjust. As for the comfort, I would sleep in this hammock every night if I could. It is more comfortable than my own bed. The fabric breathes in warm weather and traps heat in cool weather. The shelf is perfect for those few small things you want to keep with you. The footbox has ample room, allowing for a flat lay or really any type of lounging you prefer. The option to forego the mosquito netting and use the hammock as a seat is perfect as well. As far as quality goes, I am pleasantly surprised at the detail and effort that went into this hammock. I would even venture to guess that the maker is a perfectionist. I have had my hammock for a full season. The last time I went camping, I threw away my fiance’s tent and ordered this hammock as a gift to him. (It had rained that night and he slept in inches of water, while I in my hammock and I stayed toasty and dry.)
Warren –
1st time Hammock user. I found Brandon’s craftsmanship top notch. It took me a few attempts and adjustments to find the sweet spot. I finally got it dialed in last night. Very comfortable with the foot end up high, I couldn’t be happier thank you.
Adam Hafner –
The quality and features of this hammock blows me away! Every detail is well thought out and executed brilliantly. The shelf is an amazing concept and really solves many hammock problems as does the footbox. The whoopie sling suspension is incredibly lightweight and easy to adjust.
The comfort of this hammock is incredible. I have a difficult time not falling asleep when just testing the hammock in the garage.
Kurt –
Quality product can’t wait to do a extended weekend hang I see a lot of comfortable nights ahead
Neil Rifenbark –
Had another manufacturer’s gathered end hammock and just couldn’t get comfortable in it. I saw that the Blackbird had been updated a bit and decided to try it. I am 5’8″/175lbs and considered the XLC but decided to get real and just order the regular Blackbird as it had to fit me just fine, given my size.
The footbox makes the diagonal lay so easy — a little moving around and soon, no calf ridge and a really flat lay. Side sleeping is comfortable for me on both the left and right sides. Lots of room in this hammock. No constricted feel, especially with the netting coming down lower in this version of the BB.
I experimented with hanging the hammock pretty even and then with the foot end about 10 inches higher. Foot end higher is way better.
This hammock is a winner and if you’re bigger than I am, then now you have the XLC option too if you need it. Nice work Warbonnet!

I purchased a new Blackbird for my Grandson’s birthday, along with a Superfly. I reviewed the Superfly and illustrated the much less than ideal winter conditions we “enjoyed” on his maiden hang. I can not think of any new accolades or positive adjectives to describe the quality or workmanship of the Blackbird, not to mention the excellent customer service. The only thing I can add is that my Grandson got to lay briefly in his new hammock one time before we embarked on a real winter, no backing out, full blown winter hang for two nights. He settled in to the completely new experience of sleeping in a hammock with ridiculous ease. He woke up at 3:00am the first night to a full moon and thought it time to get up. I told him what time it was and he immediately went back to sleep for the rest of the night. He slept the next night completely through, and was thrilled with the experience. He just celebrated his 13th birthday, and I was a little worried how he would adjust to a completely new sleeping experience. Not to worry, the Blackbird came through! I can’t think of any better recommendation than that.
Linda Warren –
I’ve written my review, but this is an addendum. If the stuff sac for the blackbird had a different colored cord lock on the end where the head is, it would make it so much easier to set up.
I did a test run to see how fast I could set it up when the tarp was already up (like when it is raining) and I pulled the wrong end out first. A colored cord lock would prevent this, so I’m going to buy one and replace it.
Otherwise this is the best piece of gear I have purchased.
Linda Warren –
This is hands-down the best piece of equipment I have purchased for my AT adventure. Having never slept in one, I did not know what to expect from this hammock, except for having read 100s of reviews on it.
Set up was so quick and easy a child could do it. I’m a short person, so it looked CAVERNOUS and I was afraid I would not find the “sweet-spot” because my legs are too short to fit in the foot box; however, I found it and had the best sleep I’ve ever had. I intend to use this forever (I will live in my tipi again when I get off the trail).

The blackbird is truly one of the best backpacking hammocks you can buy. It is lightweight and packs up to a little bit bigger than a Nalgene 1 liter water bottle. The incorporated bug nutting is genius and can be easily tucked off to the side when not needed. The quality of the sewing is fantastic and upon observation, everything looks to be put together with great quality. Had I known how comfortable, lightweight, and how easy this hammock is to setup, I would have given up ground dwelling (tent camping) years ago. For the price, you won’t find a better setup. Well actually, no matter what the price, you won’t find a better setup. Warbonnet really knows what they are doing.

This is one of my favorite things I’ve ever bought for myself.
Really quality construction… ridiculously easy to set up… Very comfortable.
Another thing is that this hammock is actually very reasonable even discounting the major plus that it is made in the US. Many other hammock companies (excluding HH) sell their systems piece by piece whereas the Blackbird comes with integrated insect netting and straps as well as awesome features like double layer bottom for easier placement of insulation and the little shelf to keep things handy but out of the way.
Note… the website says 2-3 week lead-up time but my order shipped within a few days.. much quicker than I expected.
As long as Warbonnet keeps their core values and top-notch design and construction, they have me as a customer and fan for life… and I’m still young!

I have yet to use this hammock, but what I can say is that the customer service is second to none. when I received the hammock I had accidently cut into the stufsak while opening the package, and within a few days I had a new one in hand at no charge no questions asked. now that’s customer service. as for the hammock itself, it looks fantastic, and I cant wait to try I out. I’ve even talked a friend into getting one. after a couple of youtube videos he was sold. great hammock, great customer service .

I have several Hammocks from other leading manufactures and each one has it’s benefits and disadvantages.
Warbonnet has taken the advantages the others offer and combined them into one hammock , the Blackbird , without the disadvantages.
1. It packs up into a nice small, light weight package.
2. Is really easy and quick to hang and only takes a minute or two.
3. Offers side entry and a bug netting to keep the bugs away from you.
4. The bug netting can be tossed back and out of the way so you have a open hammock if you want one.
5. It has two bunji cords that actually open the hammock up so when you get in it it does not close up around you.
6. The double layer hammock lets you have your mat between layers so it does not scoot around like it would if it was inside on the top layer.
7. Summer camping a light weight mat could be used for minimum heat retention while sleeping , especially nice in the humid climates of the South.
8. The shelf on the one side offers a convenient area to have night time items , Kleenex , flashlight , bear spray…..
9. If the hammock gets wet it dries quickly.
10. Best of all……. It is made in America by Americans who take pride in there product.

30 degrees with just a sleeping pad and sleeping bag. Best nights sleep I ever had camping. The shelf was just as handy as everyone says. Setup and takedown is nothing with the whoopie slings and 2 carabiners. Multicam is awesome and worth there extra. Foot box also makes a good spot for medium to small dog to sleep. Even the double layer with carabiners in the sack weighs almost nothing but is built to last. Good buy

Absolutely love everything about this hammock!!!!!!!
