How to add MAC address to a wireless router
If your wireless router is configured to use Access Control, this instruction will help you to add a
computer or a phone to the allow or block lists.
Note that this page does not cover the initial router set up or wireless network configuration steps.

TP-Link
- Open a web browser and connect to the IP address of your wireless router (the default IP is 192.168.1.1).
- If your router is the E4200 v2 (check the version number on the bottom of your router), you must enter admin
as the user name. Otherwise, leave the user name blank and log in with the password you set for the router.
- Select Wireless and then Wireless MAC Filter.
- To enable Wireless MAC Filter select Enabled.
- You will get a prompt with the message: "Enabling MAC filtering will disable WPS. Do you want to continue?".
Wi-Fi Protected Setup or WPS makes the process of connecting devices to Wi-Fi much easier with the help of a Push
Button or a PIN. If you plan to use WPS click Cancel at the prompt. In this case you will not be able to use
MAC filtering on your router.
- To disable WPS and continue with MAC filtering configuration click OK.
- Select the desired filtering mode: Prevent PCs listed below from accessing the wireless network or
Permit only PCs listed below to access the wireless network.
- Enter the MAC address of the device you wish to filter into the first MAC field containing all
zeroes (00:00:00:00:00:00). Refer to our How to find MAC address page, if required.
- Click Save Settings at the bottom of the page to apply the changes.
- Open a web browser and connect to http://www.linksyssmartwifi.com.
- Log into your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account.
- Under Router Settings select Wireless or Wi-Fi Settings and go to the MAC Filtering tab.
- If the MAC Filters setting is not enabled, tick the Enabled checkbox.
- You will get a prompt with the message: "Enabling MAC filtering will disable WPS. Do you want to continue?".

- Select the desired filtering mode: Deny access for the listed MAC addresses or Allow access for ONLY the listed MAC
addresses.
- Click on the Add MAC Address button to add a device to the MAC Filter List.
- Populate the MAC Address field and click Save on the right.

- Click Apply at the bottom of the page.
- Open a web browser and connect to the IP address of your wireless router (the default IP is 192.168.1.1).
- Leave the User name field blank and log in with the password you set for the router.
- Select Wireless and then Wireless MAC Filter.
- If Wireless MAC Filter is enabled proceed to the next step, otherwise, select Enable.
- Select the desired filtering mode: Prevent PCs listed from accessing the wireless or
Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network.
- Click Edit MAC Filter List to open the MAC Address Filter List window.
- Enter the MAC address of the device you wish to filter into the first empty MAC field.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the MAC Address Filter List page and click Save Settings.
- On the Wireless MAC Filter screen click Save Settings to apply the changes.

Archer A6, Archer A9, Archer A10, Archer AX50(v1)
To enable Access Control:
- Open a web browser and connect to http://tplinkwifi.net or to the IP address of your wireless router
(the default IP is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
- Log in with your TP-Link ID or the password you set for the router.
- Go to Advanced > Security > Access Control.
If Access Control is disabled, enable it but putting the toggle switch to the right.
- Select the desired Access Mode: Blacklist or Whitelist and click Save.
The Blacklist mode blocks the devices on the list from connecting to the network and allows access
for all other devices.
The Whitelist mode allows access only for the devices on the list and blocks all other devices.
Note, Access Control applies to both wired and wireless client devices.
You need the MAC address of the device you are going to blacklist or whitelist. If the device is already connected
to your network, you can obtain its MAC address from the Online Devices list. Alternatively, follow the
instructions provided on our How to find MAC address
page.
To block (blacklist) a specific device:
- Make sure the Blacklist mode is selected.
- If the device you wish to block is already connected to your network, select the device in the Online Devices
table by checking the box on the left. Then click Block at the top of Online Devices table.
The device will be added to the Devices in Blacklist table.
- If the device you need to block is offline, click Add at the top of the Devices in Blacklist
table. Populate the Device Name and the MAC Address fields and then click Save.
The device will be added to the Devices in Blacklist table.
To allow (whitelist) a specific device:
- Make sure the Whitelist mode is selected.
- To whitelist a device click Add at the top of the Devices in Whitelist table.
Populate the Device Name and the MAC Address fields and then click Save.
The device will be added to the Devices in Whitelist table.
Archer AX10, Archer AX20, Archer AX50(v2), Archer AX6000,
Archer AX11000
To enable Access Control:
- Open a web browser and connect to http://tplinkwifi.net or the IP address of your wireless router.
- Log in with your TP-Link ID or the password you set for the router.
- Go to Advanced > Security > Access Control.
If Access Control is disabled, enable it but putting the toggle switch to the right.
- Select the desired Access Mode: Blacklist or Whitelist, Click Save
at the bottom of the page (if required).
The Blacklist mode blocks the devices on the list from connecting to the network and allows access
for all other devices.
The Whitelist mode allows access only for the devices on the list and blocks all other devices.
To block (blacklist) a specific device:
- Make sure the Blacklist mode is selected.
- Click Add at the top of the table. From the list of devices select the one you would like to block
and then click ADD.
To allow (whitelist) a specific device:
- Make sure the Whitelist mode is selected.
- Click Add at the top of the table. From the list of devices select the one you would like to
whitelist and then click ADD. If the device in question is offline, select Add Manually.
Populate the Device Name and the MAC Address fields and then click ADD. MAC address can be
obtained by following the steps outlined on our
How to find MAC address page.
Note, the device you are using to connect to the router is on the whitelist by default and cannot be deleted.
