Events at Wilberforce Support services at Wilberforce Sixth Form College are outstanding. We work collaboratively with curriculum staff to ensure that barriers to learning are removed, and that students have the best chance of success.

A word from our Principal, Colin
Wilberforce College has been a prominent establishment in the Hull community since 1988. We have grown year on year and currently serve around 1,350 students from East Hull, West Hull and the East Riding villages.
We offer all the specialisms of a sixth form college, delivering exclusively to 16-19 years olds, but have a broad curriculum that includes A Level, T Level, BTEC and City & Guilds qualifications. Our Level 3 Advanced qualifications are particularly successful and we continuously see our students progress to some of the best universities and careers.
The College’s support services are outstanding and complement students’ learning to ensure that they have the best chance of success and their experience with us extends beyond the classroom.
We continue to make significant investment in the College’s facilities, staff and students, ensuring that we remain the first choice for students, both now and in future years.

WORLD ART DAY 🌎
Today we celebrate the development, diffusion and enjoyment of art and what better way than showcasing a fantastic two-day workshop for a selection of students from across the visual arts subject area.
Led by artist in residence Jade Blood, the work the students create, which is focused around a brief of a “Future Fashion Food Party”, will be displayed by @abscultured in an installation in @humberstreetgallery later in the year! 🌟
The workshop is also heavily themed around sustainability, as well as looking at Punk, surrealism and alternative visions of the future.
Art student Jasmine has taken influence from Vivienne Westwood in her design as she uses vintage ties to create her structured garment. Jasmine has also taken her initiative outside of the classroom by getting her part-time workplace involved, collecting a stash of metal bottle caps which she plans to incorporate creatively into her final piece. 👔

INCREDI-BOWL ACHIEVEMENT 🎳🏆
Wilberforce student Avan Rhodes had a busy Easter break travelling to Helsinki in Finland for the European Bowling Youth Championships as part of Team England 🏴
Held at the famous Tali Bowling Alley in the Finnish capital, Avan described the atmosphere as “incredible” and the professional scale of the venue was “unlike anything they’d seen before”.
Avan absolutely triumphed over the week long international competition, not only leading the team at the opening ceremony… but also winning GOLD for England after an outstanding victory over the Czech Republic in the final!🥇
As well as being a #TenpinBowling star, Avan studies Engineering and Sport with the aspirations of moving to America for University in the future to continue their sporting career. 🎳
Well done Avan we are so proud of your achievement and thank you for bringing your incredible gold medal into college this week to show us! 🤩

Recently we saw 60 strong trialists descend onto our grassed pitches and brand new 4G to take part in the first Wilberforce Sports Trials.
Future and current students were brimming with excitement for the journey ahead, and what potential opportunities are on the horizon with joining either the @northferribyfc Development Academy or @hullkingstonroversofficial Dual Development Academy.

Earlier this month we celebrated the outstanding progression of our students by showcasing their incredible achievements at our annual Awards Evening hosted by the @universityofhull at their Middleton Hall.
The evening opened to the soulful sound of Music Performance & Production Student Megija Grzibovska, with the audience treated to a secondary later performance by our @napa_hull students as they took to the stage in a piece entitled “That’s Entertainment”.
An array of awards presented by devoted staff, partners and sponsors saw proud students rewarded for their academic excellence, sporting determination and work within the community. Resilience, hard work and exceptional aptitude were all themes of the words spoken about award recipients, with many recognitions of those who have achieved beyond expectation and often despite adversity.

Sammi Iverson
PAST BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS & GEOGRAPHY STUDENT
Sammi, formerly of Withernsea High School, has gone onto achieve great success pursuing her ambition of a career within the scientific industry. After studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography with Wilberforce, Sammi continued her educational journey at the University of Hull studying for a degree in Biomedical Science – much to the joy of her former Biology teacher Martin who she is still fondly remembered by! Sammi’s positive outlook and cheery demeanour as a Wilberforce student was equal to her hard work and commitment to her studies, so it is no surprise she committed herself to completing her doctorate in Medical Microbiology at Hull York Medical School. Using this impressive track record of excellence in research, she secured an R&D post at Reckitt, quickly transferring to her current role as a medical writer for Reckitt’s Global Affairs Division, seeing her travel the world using her passion for science communication and expertise to advise and educate consumers and fellow researchers in this global medical giant. Sammi has shone brightly since her days at Wilberforce and we are so proud of her achievements which we were delighted to celebrate during our recent Achievement Awards Evening.
